Department summary
The Food Science and Bioresource Technology Division exists within the Department of Agricultural, Food and Nutritional Sciences. The Department supports teaching and research in the Agricultural related industries.

Specifically the Bioresource Technology focus of the division supports the conversion of Agricultural and Forestry resources and byproduct streams into more valuable bio-based materials, chemicals and biofuels.


Position summary
Reporting to Dr.

Bressler, the position will support general and logístical operations of the research program including supporting the Biorefining Conversions and Fermentation Laboratory.

The program is a very applied one with over 20 members focused on industry-partnered innovative programs focused on the conversion of renewable biomass feedstock into low carbon products including advanced biofuels, such as sustainable aviation fuel, as well as advanced biomaterials and high value chemicals.


Duties


The position will provide administrative support including budget tracking and control; personnel management; preparation of correspondence, reports and other relevant documents; contact and liaison with external relations and University administrative units (eg, SMS, HR, FGSR, etc), and other duties as required.

It contains financial, research support, and general administration duties.


Exemplar Activities include, but are not limited to:

  • Project account administration
  • Equipment and supply purchasing including laboratory supplies, computers, printers, etc.
  • Corresponds with Research Facilitator in AFNS and the research partner network regarding requirements for finance and grant management
  • Travel coordination, planning and expense claim assistance for members of the team.
  • Calendaring and coordination of research team activities, meetings and functions
  • Coordinates payment for grad students, support staff and academic visitors
  • Support and Facilitate Grant Reporting, focus on collection and collation of research outcome reports from research team members into grant reporting templates
  • Monitoring and tracking of Grant Reporting timelines and coordination of team input preparations
  • Oversight and maintenance of research teams google drive and google sheets systems)

Minimum Qualifications

  • Minimum Relevant Postsecondary Diploma or Degree
  • Minimum of 2 years relevant financial and project management experience
  • Desirable to have MSc level in a STEM discipline
  • Familiarity with university research environment is considered a highly valued asset
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; implementation skills and results driven orientation
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt in a rapidly changing environment
  • Superior accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to prioritize conflicting tasks effectively and meeting deadlines

Preferred Qualifications

  • MSc in a STEM related discipline
  • Familiarity with the University of Alberta Financial and administrative systems
