Here is what you will be doing:
The Summer Student will be part of the Prevention team that monitors population-level prevention policies, generates high-quality evidence products, designs and implements provincial preventive programs and oversees digital risk assessment tools for reducing risk factors for cancer and other chronic diseases

The Summer Student will report to the Manager, Prevention and will support Population Health and Prevention team members with evidence products/reports, program design and implementation, including:

  • Working with the project team and relevant partners to design and implement preventive care programs
  • Conducting literature searches and evidence scans in new/emerging areas related to chronic disease prevention, as required
  • Assisting with data collection tools, data entry and data management
  • Developing and presenting materials using excellent written, verbal and graphical communications skills.
  • Supporting content development for evidence products, program resources (patient and provider), etc.
  • Support the team by offering administrative assistance as required, including drafting meeting agendas, taking detailed meeting notes, scheduling, correspondence with working group members, preparing slide decks, etc.
  • Takes on other cross-functional duties to support the Population Health and Prevention team, as required.
Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education and Experience- Grade 12 Diploma- Some university/college education is an asset- Enrollment in a degree related to health sciences, public health, community health, health administration, health promotion, kinesiology or equivalent is an asset- Experience with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook

Knowledge and Skills- Knowledge and experience conducting literature reviews (academic and grey literature) and evidence appraisal is an asset- Knowledge of chronic disease prevention, social determinants of health and population health is an asset- Knowledge of healthy equity frameworks is an asset- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team- Excellent oral and written communication skills, including ability to tailor communications to communicate effectively with different audiences- Excellent organization, prioritization, and multi-tasking skills with great attention to detail- Excellent time management, critical thinking, analytical and problem-solving skills- Ability to learn quickly- Motivated self-starter, with a desire to make an impact on the health of Ontarians- Individual with an interest and commitment to advancing equity, diversity and inclusion in the health care is preferred- Team player that contributes to a supportive and positive working environment
