Are you ready to take on an exciting and unique role where you play a vital part in ensuring the smooth operation of our University's HR processes? We're seeking a proactive and detail-oriented individual to join our HR Service Centre team as an
Employment Service Specialist.


As our Employment Service Specialist, you'll be a key player in maintaining compliance with collective bargaining agreements, University policies, and statutory regulations.

You'll review and approve all new appointment letters, ensuring adherence to various standards and legislation.

Additionally, you'll handle essential payroll functions such as generating statutory reports, managing payroll deductions, and ensuring accurate and timely payment for our 2,800 employees on average per bi-weekly pay period.


What You'll Do:


  • Dive into the intricacies of collective bargaining agreements and University policies, ensuring all new appointments meet the mark of compliance.
  • Ensuring new employee ID and information is entered to our systems promptly and accurately and updating any changes needed for current employees.
  • Generate statutory reports including payroll deductions, ROEs, and T4s.
  • Provide exceptional customer service through managing the front counter and phone line of the HR department.
  • Offer administrative support for faculty performance reviews and promotion committees.

Position Requirements


What You'll Bring to the Position:

  • Successful completion of a certificate in Office Administration, HR management or Payroll Compliance Practitioner;
  • Minimum of two years related experience.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Skills That Will Ensure Your Success in this Role:

  • Proficient in the use of Microsoft Office including: Access, Excel and Word, and complex database systems.
  • Knowledge of human resource policies and procedures (staffing, classification, salary and benefits, processes and procedures).
  • Maintaining various files and systems.
  • Knowledge of office equipment.
  • Knowledge of human resources information systems
  • Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exercises a considerable degree of initiative, judgment and discretion regarding sensitive and confidential matters and material.
  • Ensures that work accomplished is accurate.
  • Demonstrates an ability to effectively manage multiple projects while ensuring each project's deadlines are met.
  • Demonstrates an ability to work independently and as a part of the HRIS team.
  • Demonstrates an acceptable standard of personal and professional behavior in the workplace, exercising courtesy, tact and diplomacy.
  • Takes the initiative for understanding the needs of directors, staff and other internal/external clients, and acts to address those needs.
  • Interprets, explains and implements Human Resources and University policies, procedures, guidelines and programs, working within the spirit and intent of effective human resource practices.
  • Effectively adapts to tight deadlines and workloads, in order to accomplish objectives.
Physical Demands Pay Grade OOS 3 Salary Range $54,023 - $81,034 annually Status Term Work Hours

Monday to Friday, 8:15 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
