Provides analyses, recommendations, general advice and support on all Retail operational issues relating to Official Languages, sales and targets, operating costs, Retail Point of Sale system, revenue generation and cost control.

Works with field managers to develop action plans where shortfalls are identified.

Supports the implementation of merchandising and other retail related programs and associated policies, procedures, systems and standards and implementation of changes caused by enhancements or changes to the Retail Network.


Responsibilities:

Below are the main job requirements and responsibilities for the Officer, Retail Operations

  • Provides advice and assistance to Divisional Retail organizations to ensure compliance with national policies, programs, revenue requirements, business and operational objectives.
  • Develops an in depth knowledge of Retail Operations, including specifics related to the pointofsale equipment, all aspects of products, marketing strategies, sales campaigns, franchising and RPO operations and associated merchandising, operating policies, procedures, systems and standards.
  • Supports the development of retail sales and software plans, collaboratively with the field and Retail IS, including new and existing products on behalf of other Corporate Business Units, by working with functional groups to determine realistic retail sales targets for individual offices. Reviews with field staff and modifies, as appropriate.
  • Supports the development of operating plans and associated staffing budgets, by working with functional groups to determine realistic targets for individual offices, reviews with field staff and modifies, as appropriate.
  • Monitors the achievement of sales targets and operating plans for assigned geographic territories, works with field managers to determine causes of shortfalls and take remedial action.
  • Identifies opportunities to improve the efficiency or effectiveness of all Retail Operations. Analyses and recommends alternatives for development and implementation.
  • Monitors provision of service in all Retail outlets (Corporate and nonCorporate) and assists in the development of appropriate strategies and plans to ensure reliable service performance within various operating circumstances.
  • Works with other Corporate organizations, to integrate Retail activities with the functional and operating requirements of these Corporate groups.

Job Responsibilities (continued):


  • Develops promotional programs and strategies to support the entire range of company products and services, pricing changes and other issues necessary in order to support the dynamics of Retailing and meet Retail Sales goals, in conjunction with other Corporate groups.
  • Develops and maintains uptodate knowledge of specific elements of the retail operations and network developments. Evaluate and assess the current and future market needs and customer demand for retail products and work with responsible functional groups to identify and create new opportunities to enhance business and product delivery.
  • Identifies requirements and assists in the development programs and promotions that upgrade the Franchise network.
  • Assists in the development and implementation of National Retail training programs.
  • Supports the identification of activities and strategies that assist the transfer of responsibility of Delivery and Processing activities from Retail to Mail Operations.
  • Supports implementation of Corporate change initiatives, ensures consistent and successful implementations of these programs, i.e. Service changes, Rural Route amalgamation etc.
  • Maintains a customer service focus within the Head Office Retail organization.

Qualifications:


Education

  • Completed postsecondary, preferably in a related field
    OR a combination of equivalent professional experience and training

Experience

  • 1 to 3 years of relevant functional experience
  • One or more years of experience in a unionized environment an asset
  • Experience in Canada Post's Retail and point of sale environment will be considered an asset
  • Proficient computer skills and competent with Microsoft Office programs
  • Strong communication, analytical, and relationship building skills
  • Project Management skills will be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Canada Post's retail products, services, policy and procedures will be considered an asset
  • Knowledge of Canada Post's postal operations will be considered an asset
  • Ability to assess, gather relevant information to provide informed responses and solutions to issues that arise
