Reporting to the Supervisor, Medical Device Reprocessing, the MDRD Aide is responsible for collecting and sorting soiled supplies and instruments from hospital departments; operating machines such as instrument washers, sonic sinks, cart washers and steam autoclaves to clean, reprocess and sterilize supplies for re-use; and assemble packs of sterile supplies and instruments for delivery to hospital departments.


Qualifications / Skills / Abilities:


Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Current certification with a CSA or MDRAO
  • Possession of a valid Ontario Class "G" Driver's License and personal vehicle; ability to travel to all sites as required
  • Recent experience in an medical device reprocessing environment
  • Recent experience in Endoscopy reprocessing
  • Ability to carry out correct lifting and carrying techniques of items weighing up to 40 lbs
  • Excellent problem solving, decision making and organization skills
  • A thorough knowledge of instrumentation and medical/surgical supplies/equipment as it pertains to all surgical specialties
  • Availability to work all shifts (days, evenings, nights and weekends)
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills
  • Ability to effectively prioritize work load in a fastpaced work environment
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment
  • Ability to wear all required personal protective equipment
  • Commitment to continuing education
  • Ability to handle exposure to infection, noise, odors and work interruptions
  • Recent satisfactory performance and attendance records
