PURPOSE OF THE POSITION


Reporting to the Director of Cultural & Well-Being Services, the Cultural Services Lead Supervisor (CSLS) is a vital role in the agency's direction of promoting and maintaining cultural identity as an integral component of individual, family and community healing.


The CSLS is responsible for supervising and guiding the Cultural Resources Team in the Central & East Region while providing overall leadership to the Cultural Services department across the agency, ensuring that culturally appropriate practices are consistently implemented to support the overall wellbeing and development of Indigenous children, youth and families.

The role involves program development, team management, cultural promotion, community outreach, and collaboration with internal and external partners.


The CSLS will ensure that all cultural program supports are culturally intelligent services rooted in the culture, beliefs, and values of the Indigenous population we serve, with a focus on a wholistic approach to prevention.


RESPONSIBILITIES

Team Supervision and People Management

  • Provide leadership, guidance, and supervision to the Cultural Resources Team, using a strengthsbased approach aimed to engage, develop and support their delivery of culturally appropriate services and program activities.
  • Conduct regular wholistic reviews aimed to assess, develop, and support employee wellbeing and growth, while achieving performance related goals, aligned with our values and strategic plan.
  • Foster a positive, inclusive, and culturally safe work environment the values individual talents and promotes collaborative team spirit.
  • Regularly communicate and update on program and service planning, cultural support strategies, etc.
  • Review and assess information and make decisions regarding the coordination of cultural supports through the Cultural Resource Advisors.
  • Provide professional direction and cultural support to staff on an ongoing basis.
  • In challenging situations, support staff in problem solving and decision making and strategizing solutions.
  • Ensures timely feedback using effective communication and ensuring expectations are clear and performance is objectively and regularly reviewed.
  • Supervise and manage the activities of staff and ensure that pertinent legislation, Ministry standards and guidelines and Dnaagdawenmag Binnoojiiyag Child & Family Services policies, directives and procedures and cultural protocols are adhered to.
  • Participate in the review of job descriptions, recruitment activities and effective orientation and off boarding for team members.

Program Development & Implementation

  • Lead in the development, implementation and evaluation of culturally appropriate programs and services that align with the agency's strategic plan and
o Supports the wellbeing of Indigenous children, youth and families.

o Supports the ongoing learning of Agency staff and volunteers.

  • Collaborate with the Cultural Service Supervisors and other internal and external resources including partners, Elders/Knowledge Keepers, and Cultural Resource Advisors to ensure cultural authenticity and relevance in program design.
  • Lead, collaborate and consult in the review of existing policies and procedures, and the development of new policies and procedures, including standards and protocols.
  • Oversee the implementation of cultural programs, events, workshops, and traditional knowledgesharing activities.
  • Ensure all referrals are appropriately assigned and reviewed regularly for progress and effective service delivery.
  • Identify any gaps in service to develop and implement programming to support those needs
  • Establish mechanisms to assess and measure the effectiveness of services through the evaluation of short
- and long-term measurable outcomes.

  • Prepare reports on program outcomes and impact, highlighting successes, challenges, and recommendations for improvement.
  • Prepares presentations, proposals, briefing notes, etc., for consideration.
  • Lead the development, implementation, and maintenance of a training plan on cultural practices in collaboration with the Elder/Knowledge Keepers and Staff Trainers to support internal learning and development opportunities to support staff in their understanding of cultural traditions, practices, and protocols.
  • Lead in the development and maintenance of a resource list of cultural resources, Elders and Knowledge Keepers available to the Agency.
  • Review progress and consult with staff on a regular basis to ensure children, youth, families, and staff are culturally supported through their individual Cultural Wellbeing plan.
  • Provide cultural consultation to other departments in the development and evaluation of programs and services.

Cultural Services Leadership

  • Provide guidance and support to the Cultural Services Supervisors.
