Being the North's premier broadband and mobile wireless technology company, SSi has been providing Internet service to over 50 remote and underserved communities across the NWT and Nunavut since 2005.

Continuing its expansion, SSi is currently deploying and delivering mobile wireless broadband services across the Eeyou Istchee James Bay region of Québec.

WHAT WILL YOU DO?

Here are a couple of examples of the work we've done lately that might help you to get a better idea of what this job entails:


  • Building a Cband Earth Station with uplink and downlink capability at our Ottawa Teleport. This Earth Station can be used for live services or training purposes
  • Engineering and performing Service Transfers including repointing Cband and Kaband Earth Stations to new satellites across our entire remote serving territory;
  • Working with Satellite providers in assisting with interference issues and future services.
WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING?

  • Evaluate and test new equipment as required (satellite domain);
  • Understand and plan physical deployments of satellite and other RF equipment (mounting,
cabling, assembly);

  • Be the first point of contact for specific vendors related to support and equipment orders;
  • Spectrum analysis;
  • Investigate and resolve RF Interference
  • Plan satellite RF (maintain a Carrier database)
  • Field operations support satellite and RF domain: collaborate with field operations teams to provide guidance on field work and procedures; test and RMA failed and or returned equipment from the field
  • Monitor and maintain existing Teleport infrastructure such as 7 & 9m antenna, SSPAs, BUC, LNBs, UPS's, dehydrators, deicing infrastructure, and Radome infrastructure;
  • Troubleshoot and perform health assessments based on monitoring data and Key Performance
Indicators (KPI)

  • Create and maintain engineering documentation for satellite earth stations and supporting telecommunications infrastructure.
WHAT DO YOU NEED?

  • Minimum of a college degree in Communications Engineering or equivalent.
  • General knowledge of RF Systems
  • 5+ years Satellite technology experience;
  • Experience with spectrum analysers RF sweep gear, power meters, oscilloscopes, digital volt
meters;

  • 5+ years experience with SCPC and TDMA satellite system as well as modulation and FEC
schemes;

  • Be willing to work the occasional midnight shift for planned upgrades/installs;
  • Be willing to travel occasionally to remote Arctic communities for new installs and or repair.
