    The Opportunity


Building on this multidisciplinary program dedicated to pursuing integrated, more sustainable approaches to the design and development of the built environment, the Department seeks visionary leadership to help chart the next stage of its evolution.

Reporting to the Dean of the Faculty of Engineering and Architectural Science, the Chair will assume responsibility for the leadership of the Department (further details can be found in Article 26.1.E. of the Faculty Association Collective Agreement) in collaboration with faculty and staff.


Key responsibilities include but are not limited to teaching; the development and delivery of the undergraduate and graduate curricula and programs; creating a fair, equitable, inclusive and supportive environment for student learning and engagement; supporting faculty involvement in scholarly, research and creative activity; stewardship of the human and financial resources of the Department; representing the Department in the University; and liaison with the profession and community.

The Chair will facilitate a collegial, interactive environment nurturing the best qualities and achievements of all students, faculty and staff.

Teaching is a requirement of the position.


Department of Architectural Science


Drawing on its polytechnic roots, the Department has developed a comprehensive assemblage of programs reflecting its holistic understanding of, and approach to, the study and teaching of architecture.

The undergraduate Bachelor of Architectural Science degree provides students with three years of an integrated common curriculum with the opportunity to select, in their fourth year of study, a concentration in Architecture, Building Science, or Project Management.

Each concentration is further supported by graduate programs leading to a Master of Architecture degree, which is accredited by the CACB, a Master of Building Science degree, or a Master of Project Management in the Built Environment degree.

programs in Building Science and prospectively Architecture (to be announced in Fall 2023) are established as unique terminal degree opportunities in Canada.


A Co-op program, as well as a robust international exchange program with eight closely-knit partnerships, support the program's professional and global learning initiatives, and are open to undergraduate students following their third year of study.


The Department is invested in many extracurricular activities including design-build projects, a lecture series, and an in-house gallery for changing exhibitions of national and international teaching and research renown.


The Department is currently home to over 400 undergraduate students, some 100 graduate students, 26 full-time research and teaching faculty and 30 seasonal instructors.

The collegial environment is a well-balanced, diverse body of experienced and newly hired colleagues.

  • Strong expertise in the discipline of Architecture
  • Having a vision and possessing a record of excellence in proactive leadership and administration in education as well as in teaching, research, and creative activities
  • Awareness of current developments in education and architectural practice in Ontario, Canada, and abroad
  • A commitment to upholding the values of Equity, Diversity and Inclusion as it pertains to service, teaching, and scholarly, research or creative activities
