    About us: Education, Awareness and Culture is an integral part of the ITS division. The team provides communication advice, planning and support to the office of the Chief Information Officer as well as other teams within the ITS portfolio. Additionally, Education, Awareness and Culture is responsible for key messaging, development and execution of events, plans and strategies (including the Strategic Plan). We develop communication and marketing campaigns in order to help successfully deliver on the business objectives of ITS.

    Your opportunity: Reporting to the Senior Manager, Education and Awareness, the Education and Awareness Officer plays a key role on a team. They are the communication lead on Information Security education and awareness campaigns. The incumbent works to enhance communications related to Information Security and other areas within ITS ensuring that students, faculty, and staff are aware of best practices, new products and services and events. Responsibilities include executing communications efforts for phishing campaigns, surveys, assessments, and interpreting results for reporting. Outcomes will help inform the future plans. A significant portion of the officer's time will be spent executing phishing simulations, writing, planning/executing events, publishing content to social media, websites, and blogs. The education and awareness officer works closely with ITS department of Information Security, university-wide divisional communications and information security representatives. The role also is responsible for communications, education and awareness for other campaigns and departments across the Information Technology Services (ITS) division as assigned.

    Your responsibilities will include:

    • Implementing digital communication plans across a broad range of marketing/communication channels
    • Building and strengthening relationships with stakeholders and partners of strategic importance
    • Advising on best practices and strategies to maximize digital communication initiatives
    • Producing promotional and outreach materials
    • Maintaining information on digital platforms
    • Customizing website according to objectives or user feedback
    • Implementing social media campaigns
    • Analyzing the effectiveness of campaigns and/or programs using metrics

    Essential Qualifications:


    Bachelor's Degree in communications or a related discipline or acceptable combination of equivalent experience. Minimum four years progressive communications experience, preferably in a higher education IT setting. Experience in web design, beginner level of technical skills in web development (WordPress/Drupal). Demonstrated experience translating technical content into clear communications. Strong writing, editing and communication experience required. Experience in development of communication plans and tactical roll-out campaigns. Internal communications experience such as speaking and presenting to internal stakeholders. Communication planning experience and campaign execution, including events. Excellent verbal and written communications skills. Superior research and writing skills. Strong skills and ability to convey complex ideas, trends, and information in a simple way. Demonstrated skills to communicate in a manner consistent with brand. Demonstrated skills in developing proposals, annual reports, promotional material, blog content, and social media posts. Excellent time management skills (including the ability to manage several tasks concurrently). Demonstrated skills to plan ahead and forecast timelines and ability to negotiate timelines with colleagues in other departments.

    Assets (Nonessential):


    Experience using Phishing Simulation, SEO is a significant asset. Stakeholder outreach, public relations and event experience an asset. Demonstrated commitment to maintaining currency with evolving communications technologies. Thorough understanding of current web tools in social networking, media, and content management. High degree of demonstrated, successful project management. Knowledge of Information security concepts and best practices.
