Work Arrangements:
This is a hybrid role.

You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month.

You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.


The Opportunity:

We're searching for several Actuarial Analysts or Associates to join our teams in Group Benefits Actuarial, and Savings and Retirement Valuation.

Reporting to the respective director, this position will have the opportunity to learn about the products in all lines of business and will play key role in supporting the responsibilities of the Appointed Actuary.

What you will be doing:


  • Depending on the department specific role:
  • Working on internal and external reports within established timelines as assigned
  • Make recommendations on process improvements
  • Aid in pricing of new products and review current products under guidance to ensure they are priced competitively and adequately
  • May be involved in special quote support, both on new products and inforce policies
  • Maintain and update valuation systems under guidance
  • Participate in providing actuarial reserves, cash flows, capital requirements for quarterly valuations, Business plan, DCAT under guidance
  • Develop and maintain actuarial pricing models for different products (Life, AD&D, Health, Dental, STD, and LTD), considering factors such as claims data, underwriting guidelines and market conditions.
  • Analyze experience trends in inforce block, propose changes to assumptions, and implement resulting changes in Pricing.
  • Model and analyze impact of various financial management and operational initiatives.
  • Develop and execute monthly monitoring of different aspects of Group Benefits products profitability
  • Provide support to financial reporting of all Group Products (Life, AD&D, Health, Dental, STD, and LTD)
  • Provide data and analysis required for various industry studies including trend, drug pooling and expenses

What you will bring:


  • Ability to meet deadlines
  • Exposure to actuarial software such as AXIS.
  • Sound computer software knowledge, particularly in MS Excel, MS Access and VBA
  • Completing preliminary exams towards attaining ASA and FSA designation
  • A strong focus on customer service with excellent communication skills both verbal and written
