    About the Teaching and Learning Centre of Innovation

    The Teaching and Learning Centre of Innovation (TLCI) at Olds College of Agriculture and Technology serves students, faculty and staff in the following areas: Accessibility Services and Student Academic Support, Learning Commons (including the Library and Service Desk), Educational Development (including program and curriculum support, instructional support, professional development, Work Integrated Learning academic support, and Research and Scholarly Activity), Moodle and Google training and support, The Studio video production services, and the MakerSpace.

    The Opportunity - Director, Teaching & Learning Centre of Innovation

    Reporting to the Vice President Academic, the Director, for the Teaching and Learning Centre of Innovation (TLCI) is a collaborative, proactive and future focused leader who provides vision, leadership and strategic planning to support and promote the centre operations and teaching and learning.

    The successful candidate will lead with positivity and bring passion, expertise, and experience related to excellence in teaching and learning. This position will provide mentorship, leadership, guidance and direction to promote a climate of continuous learning, skill development, customer service, and student success in cooperation with Schools and Departments. The successful candidate will have a track record of building and working effectively with high functioning, multidisciplinary teams and fit within an environment that is focused on student and instructor success.

    The Director is a member of the Academic Leadership Team (ALT), as well as the College Leadership Team (CLT), with accountability for promoting and implementing the college's strategic plan. The Director is responsible for effective and efficient centre management and has a significant leadership role working collaboratively with other leaders throughout the institution to set overall strategic directions and achieve institutional outcomes.

    The Director leads the TLCI team which includes: Educational Development (instructional support, student learning support, curriculum and program support), Library and Learning Commons, the Help Desk, Educational Technology Support (i.e. Moodle, Google, MakerSpace), The Studio video production activities, The Test Center, Accessibility Services and Research and Scholarly Activity .

    Key Areas of Focus and Responsibility:

    Leadership in Teaching and Learning Excellence:

  • Support student learning through the provision of academic direction, sharing of best practices and pedagogical options for Program Curriculum Committees (PCCs) to consider
  • Provide background and context with respect to teaching and learning to support Industry Advisory Committees (IACs)
  • Provide support for Academic Council on matters of teaching and learning, and related processes
  • Assist with setting direction and pace for teaching and learning to various leadership college committees
  • Lead the development and implementation of strategic initiatives aligned with Olds College's Growing 2025 Strategic Plan
  • Provide leadership and direction for relevant policy and procedure development and revision
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships with key campus stakeholders and institutional partners
  • Monitor and assess service delivery processes to identify strengths, weaknesses and requirements for continual improvement.
  • Liaise with departments across campus to provide solutions for learning environments in order to support student learning
  • Commit to building a culture of scholarship
  • Curriculum Support

  • Advance Olds College's curriculum development, faculty development, and educational technology capabilities in order to support student learning
  • Lead curriculum health management processes and quality assurance measures for Olds College
  • Research new and emerging best practices in teaching and learning, technologies, software and hardware solutions, and grant opportunities; assist educators with planning for the use and integration of best practices in the instructional program
  • Prepare contracts for and manage external curriculum development projects
  • Provide support for faculty in effective instructional design and the development of high quality curriculum to enhance student learning and experience
  • Support the establishment of the program development, renewal, suspension and termination process in collaboration with academic schools and departments
  • Support development and implementation of high quality learning environments, including work integrated learning
  • Faculty Professional Development

  • Participate in the design, coordination, and provision of training and/or workshops, related to teaching and learning and instructional technology
  • Support instructors in developing their instructional practice
  • Ensure program compliance with internal academic curriculum policies, procedures and practices
  • Participate in the design, coordination, and execution of instructor skills series(ISS) or related
  • Research and Scholarly Activity

  • Provide leadership in the development, growth and promotion of a culture of research and scholarship within Olds College
  • Provide leadership in ensuring a college-wide understanding of what scholarly activity is in relation to the various disciplines and schools of the College
  • Educational Technology

  • Provide leadership for planning, developing, implementing, and assessing college wide learning technologies and delivery methods and supports
  • Support the identification and acquisition of technology that meets the needs of program and college initiatives
  • Support the development and implementation of the MakerSpace for internal and external clients.
  • The Studio at Olds College

  • Provide leadership for The Studio video production services
  • Promote the use of visual learning assets to support student learning
  • Promote the use of The Studio for external clients where appropriate
  • HelpDesk

  • Oversee the management of the HelpDesk, ensuring exceptional customer service, customer satisfaction, service management, and project management
  • Library and Learning Commons

  • Support development of a dynamic and comprehensive service model to meet students' learning needs
  • Support the building of collaborative relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners to provide seamless access to high quality resources.
  • Play a key role in representing the College Learning Commons with external library partners and service providers as appropriate.
  • Ensure the maintenance and support of the Memorandum of Understanding between Chinook's Edge School Division and the Olds College Library/Learning Commons.
  • Learning Services (Accessibility Services and Testing Services)

  • Ensure compliance with federal and provincial human rights legislation to provide accessibility-related accommodations to students with disabilities, including required reporting
  • Foster inclusive and accessible academic support services, flexible learning environments, and innovative educational technologies in support of diverse student populations
  • Champion the principles of Universal Design for Learning
  • Support the development of innovative and authentic assessment practices
  • Encourage comprehensive approaches to academic learning support, student success, and retention
  • Leadership in Human Resource Management

  • Coach, mentor and guide staff to build leadership capacity within the team
  • Engage and empower faculty and staff
  • Facilitate goal setting and performance management
  • Direct new staff recruitment/selection/orientation
  • Mediate interpersonal conflicts
  • Facilitate healthy, productive work environments
  • Leadership in Financial Management

  • Ensure responsible and accountable financial planning, budgeting, reporting and forecasting for the department to meet established College goals
  • Promote partnership funding approaches for teaching and learning initiatives
  • Nurture resource management skills of managers/supervisors
  • Education/Experience/Skills/Knowledge Required:

  • Masters degree in Education or related discipline and 3 to 5 years directly related experience or equivalent in a post-secondary environment
  • Post-secondary teaching experience and well-developed teaching, research, and assessment skills
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with stakeholders, including instructors, deans, associate deans, administration, and staff
  • Current knowledge of emerging trends and issues in teaching and learning
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and develop innovative solutions to complex problems
  • Effective interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills and strong organizational planning abilities
  • A clear understanding of the Olds College Strategic Plan and the implications for leadership, planning and management
  • Competency in areas of human resources, budget development and management, policies and procedures, and the ability to comply with and follow established policies, procedures, guidelines
