What Will You Do?

  • Working in coordination with planners to direct the scheduled assignments of drivers.
  • Accurately and consistently monitor and track driver progress to ensure drivers and shipment remain on schedule.
  • Take direction from planners pertaining to load plans, customer requirements, and driver instructions
  • Maintain and build a positive rapport with drivers and other departments; being the first point of contact for the assigned group of trucks (phone and satellite messaging)
  • Motivated to connect, communicate and assist with all driver inquiries
  • Track shipments from pick up through delivery and provide uptodate information to operations team and/or customers.
  • Provide accurate directions for pickup and delivery services. Negotiating with drivers on delivering planned loads, and provided printed directions and instructions when necessary.
  • Act as liaison between driver, operations, shop, driver services etc.
  • Work with Fleet Manager and intercompany staff to maintain equipment consistent with the preventative maintenance program and CVOR requirements. Work with shop in scheduling maintenance repairs as required.
  • Liaise with other operating locations to maximize equipment efficiency and utilization.
  • Respond to queries from employees and customers regarding service issues.
  • Prepare various daily, weekly, and monthly reports.
  • Assist in preparing necessary paperwork relating to shipping schedules, customs, fueling, loading and provide to the appropriate stakeholders
  • Greet and direct drivers at the driver window
  • Back up for department staff, when required.
  • All other duties as required.

Who Are We Looking For?

  • A positive attitude and excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to solve problems quickly and efficiently.
  • Three (3) years previous experience with dispatching in the transportation industry preferred.
  • Sound knowledge of MS Office particularly Excel. Previous experience with routing software is an asset.
  • Ability to identify and constructively make recommendations regarding operational improvements
  • Technical knowledge of major vehicle systems and various equipment types considered an asset.
  • Knowledge of Highway Traffic Act, hours of service logs, load security and Regulations
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Flexibility for coverage
