ENVIRONMENTAL SERVICES MANAGER JOB POSTING

The Environmental Supervisor reports to the Executive Director and performs general, routine maintenance and servicing operations throughout the home, in accordance with applicable codes and regulations and as directed by the Executive Director.


Responsibilities:


  • Provides leadership to the environmental services department which includes laundry, housekeeping and maintenance
  • As directed and in accordance with applicable codes and regulations, performs a variety of routine maintenance, servicing and repair operations to maintain home, equipment, furnishings, fixtures, and grounds in proper condition. Responsible for effectively scheduling and supervising maintenance and repair work.
  • Supervises the Handyperson and Painters, prepares time and work schedules, staff training and performance appraisals.
  • Focuses on a person centred approach whilst maintaining the organisation's policies and procedures.
  • Following approval refers problems requiring specialized work such as electrical or plumbing, to outside contractors and monitors work performed.
  • Provides general assistance to skilled tradespersons such as mechanics, electricians, carpenters, plumbers, painters, etc., as required.
  • Conducts regular maintenance rounds to ensure all life safety and building and support systems are functioning properly.
  • Adheres to established policies and procedures regarding quality assurance, safety, environment and infection control.
  • Displays a sense of spontaneity and ability to change the moment positively for people
  • Supervises fire prevention and fire drill procedures, including staff training, in proper procedures and use of firefighting equipment. Liaises with local municipal Fire Departments.
  • Liaises with outside service contractors and inspectors to assure equipment and environment conform to applicable codes and regulations.
  • Maintains required records, reports, statistics, etc., in accordance with policies, procedures and legislative requirements.
  • Notifies the Executive Director of significant building/equipment malfunctions/problems.
  • Recruits, hires and discharges housekeeping aides, laundry aides, maintenance/handyperson
  • Adheres to human resources when recruiting and hiring new employees
  • Adheres to the collective agreement when developing and implementing human resources policies
  • Has a good understanding of staffing patterns, and scheduling activities
  • Presents a positive approach, not controlling language and actions towards people.
  • Monitors payroll activities to ensure that wage grids, benefits, statutory holidays, vacations, lieu days are applied as per the collective agreements.
  • Conducts performance management for the environmental services department
  • Counsels and disciplines staff in areas of noncompliance, inappropriate and unprofessional behaviour. Utilizes progressive discipline process when disciplining employees
  • In collaboration with the Executive Director, develops the capital expenditure plan for the home
  • Monitors expenditures through the review of variance reports. Analyses monthly variances and is responsible to ensure that budget expectations are met
  • Approves the purchase of supplies related to housekeeping, laundry and maintenance
  • Required to understand the nature and meaning of quality indicators used by the Home
  • Other duties as assigned and or indicated in Job Task Inventory

Qualifications:

The qualifications needed to join our family are as follows:

Knowledge of evidence-based practices and, if there are none, prevailing practices relating to housekeeping, laundry and maintenance- Minimum of two (2) years' experience in a managerial or supervisory capacity.- Ability to lead a team by setting an example in a direct and positive manner.- Experience in general maintenance and repairs.- Ability to read, write and understand oral and written instructions.- Basic knowledge of Ontario building, mechanical and electrical systems, fire codes, plumbing and carpentry; ability to read and interpret manuals related to equipment and systems.- Ability to evaluate and determine when the services of skilled trades people are necessary.- Skilled in the use of a wide range of tools.- Ability to train, direct and supervise others.- Ability to use the skills mix of the team to it best potential to enhance the well being of individuals.- Must have a clear vulnerable sector screen, no older than 6 months, TB test results less than 6 months old, must be able to provide three supervisory references.
