Overview:

Safety:

  • Leads the business unit with the utmost focus on health & safety; proactively implements Lafarge Eastern Canada best practices and complies with Group requirements.
  • Engages with all levels of employees in this regard and ensures personnel are actively seeking out real time solutions to identified risks.
  • Personally participates in and pushes corrective actions for health and safety audits.

Leadership:

  • Defines the vision and strategy for the SW business unit and ensures its full communication and alignment across all levels of the team, in order to collectively execute on the required action plans, ensure their successful implementation and achieve desired business results.
  • Defines the region unit's organizational structure with clear Job descriptions for all positions and builds a strong and cohesive team with the right people, right skills and right motivation.
  • Fosters a performance culture that obtains consistent results.
  • High focus on people development and talent pipeline sustainability.
  • Identifies underperformance and establishes corrective action; Selects, hires, trains and terminates as required.
  • Provides leadership, coaching, and development opportunities to stretch and challenge staff to deliver results & strengthen relationships within the team, functional units, and customers.
  • Leads team in strategic planning, progress plans, business development activities and identifying competitive landscape & sales intelligence.
  • Conducts regular meetings with clear agendas and priorities.

  • Works closely with management and staff to develop a professional approach to managing the business fostering a culture of empowerment with accountability on clear deliverables

Operations Strategy:

  • Directs the development, implementation and execution tracking of the operations strategy, factoring existing and future productions sites, product offering, depots, docks, investment plans, joint ventures, manufacturing costs, logistics network and sourcing optimization among others in order to maximize our competitive position and optimally service our customers needs.
  • Gives ultimate direction and oversight for the production of our products at the plant.
  • Ensures plant feed plans are optimized and balance short term profitability with operations sustainability while achieving optimal product splits.
  • Implements best practices, processes and tools to ensure plant activities are optimized and costs are accurately forecasted, tracked and benchmarked to achieve best in class performance.
  • Works in conjunction with Performance Directors and Operations staff on the Lafarge Eastern Canada maintenance and delivery programs to maximize efficiencies on both production and delivery.
  • Reviews financial statements, activity reports, and other performance data to measure productivity and goal achievement and to determine areas needing cost reduction and program improvement.
  • Involved in local union contracts negotiations. Is responsible for overall harmony in Labour Relations.
  • Involved in the safety measures, delivery improvements and upkeep of applicable delivery models.

Sales, logistics & Customer Focus:

  • Directs the development, implementation and execution tracking of the Commercial and logistics strategy, defining our approach to volume, price, segment strategy, portfolio optimization, zone mapping, network optimization, among others, to maximize value for Lafarge and our customers
  • Oversees the implementation of effective Sales and logistics processes and tools to create structure, proactive planning and accountability in the sales process.
  • Defines docks strategy and negotiates dock material transfer prices and terms with the USGL division
  • Implements the Eastern Canada Price Margin Management (PMM) process including authority approval levels.
  • Liaison with suppliers and haulers in order to source out the right strategic partners in the market and obtain favourable market pricing.
  • Records and signs off all contracts above the local set thresholds
  • Ensures the utilization and evolution of our Digital tools and systems including Salesforce.
