    The City of Lethbridge, Recreation and Culture Department, is accepting applications for (1) non-permanent, Casual Term position of Arena Caretaker / Relief Recreation Operator at the Crossings Arena.

    CROSSINGS ARENA CARETAKER / RELIEF RECREATION OPERATOR

    Casual Non-Permanent Term: 0-40 hours per week

    The City of Lethbridge, Recreation and Culture Department, is accepting applications for (1) non - permanent, Casual Term position of Arena Caretaker / Relief Recreation Operator at the Crossings Arena.

    WAGE : Arena Caretaker $29.10 per hour (2022 rate)

    Recreation Operator$37.10 per hour (2022 rate)

    HOURS :0 - 40 hours per week.

    *Shift work is required. Shifts will include days, afternoons and weekends.

    STATUS: Term for approximately 6 months

    *Please note that this term is for the 2024 summer season only.

    Duties & Responsibilities:

    Reporting to the Crossings Leisure Manager, the successful applicant will contribute and participate in activities related to preventative and unscheduled maintenance, as well as environmental, health and safety, and other special initiatives by always providing exceptional patron satisfaction through the delivery of great service.

  • Maintaining a safe, clean and functional facility.
  • General janitorial duties (for example: daily cleaning of floors, bathrooms, showers, lobby and bleacher areas).
  • Problem resolution, operations record-keeping & documentation, handling public inquiries and concerns while ensuring that facility rules are followed.
  • Maintain inventory for cleaning supplies and maintenance supplies.
  • The successful individual will be required to perform work as it relates to start-up, shutdown and regular maintenance of arena facility.
  • The individual will assist staff in equipment diagnosis and provide technical support.
  • Work independently with limited supervision.
  • Maintaining relationships with contractors and tradesman.
  • Work with other team members and assisting patron groups in setting up special events when required.
  • Perform scheduled safety and maintenance checks of the facility and equipment including various pumps, HVAC units & furnaces and emergency repairs as directed by the Crossings Leisure Manager.
  • Maintenance of artificial ice surfaces and operation of refrigeration equipment, minor facility and equipment repairs as required.
  • Ensure all tools and cleaning equipment are maintained and serviced regularly.
  • General knowledge of various arena sports (Ringette/Hockey/Lacrosse/Ball Hockey) as examples.
  • Health and Safety:

  • Ensure compliance with all legislation, including but not limited to: Occupational Health and Safety guidelines as per Alberta Occupational Health and Safety code,
  • Understand and adhere to the City of Lethbridge Health and Safety policies.
  • Thorough knowledge and understanding of emergency procedures and applicable mechanical systems.
  • Take an active role in participating and interacting with the Recreation and Culture Health and Safety Committee.
  • Ensure all contractors comply with the established Health and Safety policy.
  • Customer Service:

  • Professionally and courteously handle all inquiries, feedback, complaints, or concerns.
  • Interact with patrons in a diplomatic manner.
  • Experience & Qualifications:

  • Arena Operator Level 1 Certification – AARFP (or equivalent)
  • Current First Aid/CPR certification, and WHIMS would be beneficial.
  • Operational Experience with Ice resurfacing equipment
  • Considerable mechanical aptitude to perform routine checks, minor repairs on building and equipment, and troubleshoot when required.
  • Experience with general custodial work, floor scrubbers, and hand tools, equipment used for repairs and facility maintenance.
  • Building Management System experience (BMS) would also be beneficial.
  • Knowledge of policies, procedures and regulatory acts as it relates to arenas.
  • Ability to communicate with co-workers and supervisors effectively and professionally, both oral and written to ensure continuity of quality service.
  • Ability to develop and sustain cooperating working relationships with staff, contractors and the public.
  • Current Class 5 Driver's License. (No GDL)
