What will you be doing

  • Communicating to the Deputy Chief Training, information relevant to the employee's level of performance and potential to advance or transfer in the Company and to determine what development may be needed
  • Reporting to the Deputy Chief of Training on results and assessments pertaining to firefighter training
  • Safely supervising high risk emergency training evolutions, including but not limited to: live fire training, high angle rope rescue training, confined space training, hazardous materials response training.
  • Assisting in the evaluation of emergency operations and Post Incident Reviews to determine Department training requirements.
  • Conducting effective training courses and seminars to management, supervisory and frontline Fire Department personnel.
  • Administering firefighter recruitment program, including monitoring course completions, periodic testing.
  • Overseeing all audio visual equipment, teaching aids, training equipment/grounds and demonstration devices generally employed in training programs.
  • Supervising students during training evolutions, so that applicable safety standards and practices are followed, and instructional goals are met.
  • Assessing and reviewing the development and implementation of lesson plans.
  • Ensuring training records are maintained, accurate and accessible.
  • Participating in updating, developing and reviewing of operational procedures.
  • Assisting in the development of training plans and specialized emergency training curriculum for the Department, so that method(s) indicated in the plan are consistently used and the stated learning outcomes are achieved.
  • Assisting in the maintenance of accurate and reliable training records documenting mandated training according to departmental and legal standards.
  • Providing input into the short, medium, and long term planning of department training and make recommendations into the budgeting process.
  • Preparing and maintains accurate reports, records, and correspondence along with summaries of the training activities.
  • Participating in the emergency preparedness exercises and drill program.
  • Participating in the maintenance of the training equipment, training structures, and training grounds where training is conducted.
  • Responsible and accountable for knowing and working in accordance with CNL's Health & Safety Policy. The employee must work in such a way as not to endanger himself/herself, fellow employees or the public.
  • Responding to emergencies as required by the Whiteshell Fire Department.
  • Assisting Whiteshell Fire Operations in meeting objectives and managing day to day operations as required.
  • Maintaining proficiency in the operation of all necessary technology to fulfil the job requirements.
  • Performing such other tasks necessary to maintain the continuity of the Fire Department within the scope of the employee's position.
  • Other duties as assigned by your manager.

What we are looking for:


  • Security clearance eligibility required: Level 2 Secret which has a minimum requirement of 7 years of verifiable history in Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United States and/or the United Kingdom. CNL implements security screening in accordance with the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat "Standard on Security Screening" and the "Policy on Government Security".
  • Certification in First Aid, CPR, O2 and AED.
  • Minimum 5 years Fire Suppression experience.
  • Minimum NFPA 1001 Level I & II.
  • Minimum NFPA 1041 Fire Service Instructor Level I.
  • NFPA 472 Technician Level.
  • NFPA 1006 Technician Level.
  • SP 200 Forest Fire Suppression.
  • Knowledge of applicable NFPA standards and other standards related to training requirements for CRL Fire Operations.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products, specifically MS Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Demonstrated ability to operate audiovisual equipment and demonstration devices.
  • Must possess a valid Class D Driver's Licence with Z endorsement or equivalent.
  • Meet the medical and physical requirements set forth by Corporate Fire and Emergency Management.
  • Must pass an annual medical and physical evaluation.
  • Knowledge of modern firefighting, related emergency services and the operation and routine maintenance of apparatus and equipment.
  • Five (5) or more years of progressively responsible related experience.
