    Description

    Airswift is working with one of our major clients to find a Laboratory Technician to join their team on a 1-year contract in Kitimat. This will be a 5/40 schedule (OT may be required) with accommodation provided.

    Responsibilities:

    • Engage with the wider production team to build a strong and coherent culture of collaboration between operations and the laboratory.
    • Contribute to performing lab testing on routine and ad-hoc samples received in the lab to support commissioning activities.
    • Communicating abnormal and off-spec results to operations in a timely manner to facilitate operational adjustments if needed.
    • Responsible for maintaining safety in the lab by following established safety protocols and raising safety concerns and solutions in a timely manner.
    • Contribute to upholding the laboratories' safety protocols and escalate when safety hazards are identified.
    • Contribute in performing minor troubleshooting on laboratory equipment when the need arises.
    • Accountable for maintaining inventory of lab supplies, chemicals and reagents for a smooth lab operation.
    • Will be available for after-hours or weekend support when necessary.

    To be successful, you will have:

    • Bachelor's degree in chemistry or Chemical Technology Diploma or Chemical Engineering Technology
    • 3+ years experience in LNG/Refining/Petrochemical or heavy industry operations
    • Proven safety leadership skills, good understanding of HSSE requirements, track record in managing personal and process safety.
    • Good communication skills (written and oral) and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively at all levels of the organization. Work together with/ align with other engineering disciplines for supporting operations shift teams
    • Strong knowledge and experience with key lab equipment such as Gas Chromatography, IC's, Titrators, Spectrophotometers, pH and conductivity meters etc.
    • Strong computer skills - PowerPoint, Word, Excel, Outlook
    • Strong Knowledge of ASTM and Standard Water and wastewater testing test methods, ISO 17025 standard
    • Ability to support and sustain changes.
    • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision
    • Strong networking and business relationship building skills is strongly desired.
    • Strong continuous improvement mindset.
    • Works effectively in a team environment that builds trust and engagement.
    • Maintains a strong relationship partnership with the Operations Unit Production Specialist, Head of Operations, and technical discipline specialists sharing overall responsibility for the successful planning and execution of these activities

    • Embrace change and can work with agility to constantly adapt and manage change.
    • Excellent analytical, planning and problem-solving skills.

    This role requires that you:

    • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada (i.e., by way of Canadian citizenship, permanent residency, or valid work permit) (External role)
    • Regular 40/hrs./week with weekend and evening rotations
    • Commissioning and Start up when assigned: 12hr rotating shiftwork. Additional hours will be required during turnaround to support execution.
    • This is an Overtime Eligible role.
