Description

Under the direction of the Manager, Capital Projects, the Technician is responsible for leading, planning, coordinating and executing multi-disciplinary construction, renovation and refurbishment projects across all areas of the College.

The Technician meets with user groups and project stakeholders, defines project objectives, develops scope of work, estimates project budgets, produces conceptual layouts & final designs and engages consultants and/or contractors to deliver projects on time, within budget and according to specification.

The Technician is accountable for small to medium sized construction, renovation and/or refurbishment projects, each ranging up to $250,000 in value with up to 5-7 projects concurrently in progress.

What You'll be Doing

Meeting with project stakeholders to ascertain requirements;
Defining project scope, goals and deliverables to support business objectives;
Preparing project budget and cost estimates and establishing project schedule;
Developing project design specifications and concept drawings;
Collaborating with departments and providing leadership in establishing design requirements and specifications;
Preparing design drawings using Auto-Cad;
Preparing tender bid documents, obtaining pricing for construction and evaluating submitted tenders;
Communicating construction schedule to the College community and coordinating accommodations;
Tracking project timelines and achieved milestones as well as project expenditures;
Conducting project post-mortems and researching best practices and relevant industry tools;
Performing other related duties, as assigned.

You are comfortable with changing and competing priorities, demands and timelines and use your analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills to develop processes to keep things running smoothly.


You enjoy balancing many different tasks and can prioritize multiple projects while staying organized and maintaining a high level of attention to detail.

You are skilled at conducting research into project related issues, product development and effective space utilization.

You have excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.

3-year diploma/degree in Architecture, Engineering, Interior Design, Construction Management, or related field

2 years of experience with all stages of planning, design and execution of renovation and construction projects within an academic or public sector setting (equivalency to be considered)

Knowledge of construction management, architectural standards, engineering principles and relevant codes

Auto-Cad skills (required); 3D modeling skills (asset)
