Qualifications
- High School Diploma or suitable combination of relevant education and experience related to the position.
- Journeyperson Electrician Certificate as recognized by the Province of Manitoba.
- Registered with Canadian Fire Alarm Association as a Fire Alarm Technician, preferred.
- Minimum of four (4) years commercial experience as a Journeyperson Electrician
- Active employment as a Journeyperson Electrician within the last two (2) years.
- Training in electronic and pneumatic control systems.
- Demonstrated experience in electrical distributions of 120 Volts to 5000 Volts.
- Demonstrated experience in Building Automation Systems maintenance and repair.
- Thorough knowledge of building and fire codes and related regulations applicable to health facilities in Manitoba.
- Ability to read and understand blue prints and schematic drawing required
- Province of Manitoba Class 5 Drivers License, and access to a personal vehicle to provide service within Prairie Mountain Health.

Position Summary
The Journeyperson Electrician is responsible for maintaining the electrical power distribution throughout the Prairie Mountain Health Region. Responsibilities include maintenance, testing and upkeep of the electrical system including but not limited to main power distribution, standby power distribution (including the standby generator), lighting, electrical heating, control systems (including DDC and Electric/Pneumatic), fire alarms, appliances (laundry, housekeeping & kitchen), medical equipment, communication systems, electrical clock systems. Incumbent is also responsible for new installation and hook up of electrical systems and equipment as deemed appropriate, ensuring that all up keep, repair and installations are done according to Provincial Electrical Codes and/or Canadian Electrical Code.
Responsibilities
Overview:
- Maintains, alters, repairs and installs a variety of electrical systems and electrical mechanical equipment throughout the Prairie Mountain Health Region.
- Installs, alters, repairs and maintains a variety of power equipment including motors, generators and their related mechanical equipment throughout the Prairie Mountain Health Region.
- Repairs and maintains boiler controls, laundry equipment, food service equipment, housekeeping equipment, sterilizers etc. throughout the Prairie Mountain Health Region.
- Maintains, alters, repairs and installs controls for heating, air conditioning, ventilation, smoke removal systems etc. throughout the Prairie Mountain Health Region.
- Repairs, inspects and tests fire alarm, communication systems, electrical clock systems, electrical door operating equipment and similar systems throughout the Prairie Mountain Health Region.
- Performs installation, calibration and maintenance of all related pneumatic and microprocessor control systems for HVAC.
- Maintains drawings, schematics and equipment files so that they are current.
- Must work in co-operation with all other staff to produce a harmonious working relationship throughout the Prairie Mountain Health Region.
- Participates in various meetings and committees as required.
- Adheres to all applicable policies, procedures and related codes.
- Keeps the person you report to, apprised of all pertinent information regarding the functions within the Department.
- Orders related materials and parts as required.
- Prepares estimates of time and materials for specific projects as required.
- May occasionally supervise other categories or lesser-qualified maintenance personnel.
- May work independently or assist in the installation and repair of building services, building service equipment and various hospital equipment.
- Participates in new construction and commissioning as required.
- Performs all required aspects of preventative maintenance.
- Responds to emergency calls such as Code Red, Code White, etc. as directed.
- Ensures that equipment, tools, materials, etc. are properly maintained and ensures economic use of same.
- Works with a full array of various hand and power tools.
- Maintains work and equipment areas in a clean, safe and orderly condition.
- Performs required duties on all Prairie Mountain Health facilities and buildings.
- Performs other maintenance duties as required, not exceeding skills and capabilities.
- Notifies person you report to, when additional help is required.
- Ensures that consideration is given to patients and staff by notifying them when services are to be interrupted, when work is to be done and when work has been completed.
- Position may require heavy lifting, bending and working in elevated areas utilizing scaffolding, etc. and working in confined spaces and enclosures.
- All of the above must be carried out within Prairie Mountain Health Regional and Departmental Policies, Procedures and codes governing and related to the profession.
- Sundry duties as assigned.
