The Opportunity
The hours for this position will generally be Monday to Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and will follow the academic year.
Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to**:
- Assist with overall routines and implementation of programming in the Junior School classrooms as outlined by classroom and specialist teachers;
- Review and reinforce learning engagements using lesson plans and learning strategies developed by the learning strategies team to help students to master;
- Help students individually or in small groups with curriculum content and reinforce learning and retention concepts under the supervision of classroom and specialist teachers;
- Assist in the educational, social and emotional development of students under the guidance of classroom and specialist teachers;
- Support individual students with the implementation of strategies for behaviour and socioemotional needs in conjunction with the classroom teacher and learning strategies lead;
- Observe and document learner strengths, achievements, needs and behaviours through daily learning activities as requested by teachers;
- Support students with transitions throughout the school day;
- Assist in first aid and student safety procedures and secure further assistance where needed.
Required Qualifications and Experience:
- Certificate or Diploma in a child/youthrelated program; a focus on Special Education, Behavioural Science, Community Support Work, Developmental Service Work or Early Childhood Education, is preferred;Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar role working with school aged children;
- Considerable experience supporting the inclusion of students with diverse learning needs by providing academic and/ or socialemotional skill development in the learning environment;
- A positive attitude and ability to maintain a calm and professional demeanor;
- Enthusiastic, energetic and keen to contribute to Branksome Hall's program;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with various stakeholders including parents/caregivers;
- Strong collaborator and team player with the ability to take initiative both inside and outside of the classroom;
- Understanding and awareness of health and safety;
- Knowledge of relevant technology and able to work in an online environment;
- First Aid certification is an asset.
