Work Arrangements:

We are currently working remotely, and we will be moving to a hybrid model when our office renovation is complete (approximately November 2023), coming into the office a minimum of 2 days per week, every other week on designated days.

Equitable Life is growing We are looking to add a Supervisor, Life Claims and Payment to our Group Life and Disability team
This role is an expert and enablement role for the Life Claims and Payment team.

What you will be doing:


  • Oversee daily operations of the Group Life and Disability payment team coordinating daily workflow to prioritize tasks and daily huddles to determine if changes in priorities are required
  • Assist manager with recruitment, retention and development for the Life Claims & Payment team including preparing annual performance reviews for direct reports
  • Develop and deliver training for new and existing Life Claims & Disability Payment Specialists
  • Complete audits for life and AD&D claims, and disability payments and use results to determine ongoing requirements for training/upskilling/process improvement
  • Analyze, document, and prepare monthly, quarterly (4) and annual statistic reports indicating the overall audit findings and make appropriate recommendations to management to ensure risk management and process opportunities are identified
  • Oversee the ongoing development and maintenance of the knowledge management system for Life, AD&D and Life Waiver claims, regular review of best and next practices
  • Actively identify process improvement opportunities and participate in key projects as either lead or SME (business and IT projects)
  • Lead the development of process documentation for Life, AD&D and Life Waiver claims and disability payments
  • For complex claims with an higher authority limit (above $120K), assess claim requirements in accordance with policy provisions in order to make timely and accurate decisions on Life, Dependent Life, Optional Life, AD&D, Living Benefit, and Creditor Life claim eligibility
  • Complete secondary reviews of Life, AD&D and Life Waiver claims. Act as the final approver during the secondary review for Life Claims within the Life Claims & Disability Payment Specialist's authority limit
  • Effectively calculate benefits payable and adjust as required throughout the course of the disability claim (i.e. offset for CPP Disability Benefits and WSIB, and calculating overpayments, etc.) maintaining the correct taxability of the claim
  • Complete secondary reviews of complex payment calculations on disability and life claims, and act as approver for payments over the Life Claims & Payment Specialist's authority limit
  • Lead annual tax project for disability claims
  • Monitor overpayments for Group Life & Disability and work with other stakeholders including Group Disability Management, Group Finance and Collections Agencies to determine next steps to recover funds
  • Using discretion, effectively resolve escalated phone calls/inquiries from clients including irate/dissatisfied clients within a demanding time frame, to the satisfaction of both the client and the company
  • Back up for Manager duties if the Manger is away
  • Ensure monthly and quarterly financial reporting for Life & AD&D claims is completed accurately
  • Investigate any discrepancies identified with Group Finance for Life, AD&D and Disability claims
  • Additional accountabilities may be added as we introduce new products (e.g., critical illness)
