Description
The Labor and Birth Team is currently seeking a highly motivated, organized, results-oriented, friendly individual to provide lactation support.

Reporting to the Clinical Leader/Manager, you will be responsible for the education of staff and patients on the latest breastfeeding practices.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Assess breastfeeding policies and procedures.
  • Develop appropriate educational materials for patients.
  • Consult with patients/families and staff regarding individualized plans.
  • Review all materials for infant feeding to ensure compliance with Hospital philosophy.
  • Role model to nursing staff to promote professional development.
  • Develop documentation system incorporating LATCH Scare.
  • Collaborate in multidisciplinary research related to human lactation.
  • Maintain statistics on breastfeeding initiation and duration.
  • Chair the Hospital Committee related to infant feeding.
  • Develop a breastfeeding certificate program within the Hospital.
  • Responsible for the selection, upkeep and inventory control of breastfeeding equipment.
  • Other duties as required.

QUALIFICATIONS:


  • International Board Certification as Lactation Consultant (IBLCE).
  • Minimum 5 years experience working with child bearing families and maternal health setting.
  • 2 to 5 years recent experience working as Lactation Consultant.
  • Current member of association(s) affiliated with human lactation.
  • Demonstrated skill in staff/patient education and adult learning principles.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and as part of a team in a demanding environment.
  • Strong customer service orientation with proven ability to interact with all levels of staff and diverse patient group.
  • Excellent communication and language skills, organizational skills, decision making/problem solving skills and interpersonal competence are essential.
  • Proficient computer skills, i.e. Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access and GroupWise.
  • Demonstrated commitment to and understanding of the Mission and Values of St. Michael ́s Hospital.
  • Good attendance record.
  • Must be available to work shifts including weekends, extended and short schedules.
