What You Will Do:


The Community Support Program provides a holistic service where coordinators work with individuals with intellectual disabilities living independently and/or at home with their families.

Community Support Coordinators assist in planning, advocacy, and access to supports and resources in the community.

Community Support Coordinators provide guidance and coaching for individuals and families as it pertains to networking, self-help, education and creative programming options.


Position Summary:


  • Complete intake and connect people with intellectual disabilities and their families to resources within the Association and community.
  • Build trusting rapport with individuals and families
  • Assist individuals and families in accessing developmental services in areas such as accommodation, education, recreation, day supports, respite and financial resources as well as accessing health services or other resources, as needed.
  • To liaise and build partnerships with local community services and businesses that advance inclusion.
  • To provide guidance and work with individuals and families to come up with creative programming options.
  • To assist with verbal and written proposals for alternative funding options to support the creation of new opportunities within the organization.
  • To increase public awareness of intellectual disabilities and topics significant to individuals with intellectual disabilities and their families through active participation in Speaking Engagements.
  • To promote community awareness of the services provided by Community Living York South.
  • To assist individuals and their families to develop self-advocacy skills and arrange opportunities for families to network through forums and community workshops for the purpose of information sharing, education, self-help and initiate change.
  • Working with elementary and secondary schools to provide support and planning for transitions and promoting opportunities for inclusion in the educational system.
  • To be a proactive team member and promote the Association values of teamwork within
Community Living York South and with all stakeholders.


  • To carry out any administrative duties that may be required by the Association.
  • To engage in projects as directed by Supervisor

What We Need:


  • Values driven individuals;
  • Bachelor of Arts/ Psychology, Developmental Service Worker/Social Service Worker or equivalent, relevant experience.
  • Ontario Secondary School Diploma required;

MUST be fluent in Tamil:

  • G Class Driver's License is required with access to a reliable vehicle;
  • Previous experience supporting persons of various ages and abilities is required;
  • 1 to 2 years of experience in the developmental services sector is considered an asset;
  • Demonstrates developmental services sector core competencies;
  • Ability to lead others/leadership skills/model, direct and mentor colleagues;
  • Capable of fostering independence in others;
  • Strong advocacy and interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated achievements in community development and community capacity building.
  • Superior computer skills in MS Office, Adobe in Design, and search engine capabilities.
  • Flexibility to travel across Southern York Region including Markham, Richmond Hill, Thornhill, Stouffville and Vaughan.
  • Knowledge of fundraising and special events planning coordination.
  • Ability to facilitate and coordinate workshops.
  • Ability to engage in project work
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Excellent public speaking skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and problem solving skills
