Scope
Reporting to the Manager of Healthy Communities, this roll supports creating and maintaining accessible and inclusive facilities, programs, and services within the City of Surrey.
The Manager will work collaboratively with other staff and partner agencies across the City to ensure coordination in plan development, project delivery, policy development, strategic communications including reports and plans relating to accessibility and inclusion.
Responsibilities:
Advise on accessibility and inclusion best practices City-wide
Plan, organize, coordinate, and administer multiple projects related to accessibility, diversity, equity, and inclusion
Lead the work associated with the City's Accessibility plan in compliance with the Accessible British Columbia Act and related legislation
Coordinate and support the Surrey Accessibility Leadership Team
Coordinate and develop related staff training
Coordinate additional supports to reduce barriers to participation within PRC.
Advise on program development and facility updates
Ensure the development of good working relationships with external agencies and partners.
Responsible for the recruitment, orientation, training, and ongoing coaching of staff and volunteers involved in various projects
Create budgets and manage financial tracking of costs and revenues associated with projects.
Receive public inquiries and respond in a timely manner
Create and deliver reports and presentations
Work both individually and in a team environment
Administer policies and procedures
Performs other related duties as required
Qualifications:
Completion of a post-secondary education from a recognized institution related to business administration, and/or parks, recreation and/or cultural field.
Have more than 2 years relevant progressively responsible experience including supervision.
An equivalent acceptable combination of education, training and experience may be considered.
Significant experience and understanding of inclusion, diversity, equity, & accessibility, within a municipal environment
Broad understanding of legislation, trends, and best practices relating to accessibility and inclusion
Thorough understanding of corporate reports and administrative processes and possess superior verbal and written communication skills with strong presentation and facilitation skills
Good planning and organizational skills with the ability to work independently is essential in this role
Ability to demonstrate sound judgment in making decisions and negotiate and resolve conflicts
Experience working in a local government environment will contribute to success in this role
Conditions of Employment
This position requires completion of a Police Information Check/Vulnerable Sector Check.
