Medical Billing Clerk
Founded in Ottawa in 1971, Bio-Test has been providing best-in-class specimen collection and diagnostic services to Eastern Ontarians and is fully licensed by the Ontario Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care to perform tests in hematology, chemistry, microbiology, special chemistry, serology, and cytology.
The Medical Billing Clerk will mainly be responsible for OHIP Billing, Submissions, Rejections and Direct Billing to third party insurance companies and other organizations.
They will also be the main point of contact for physicians, issuing monthly statements, updating patient records with the most current invoices, bills, and relevant contact information; as well as, keeping track of transactions and reconciling discrepancies in a timely manner.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Preparing and submitting billing.
- Preparing billing submissions to the MOHLTC.
- Preparing billing claims/invoices to insurance companies, Quebec Health Insurance Plan, patients, laboratory services, radiology services and other users/requesters of laboratory services.
- Reconciling error reports and rejected claims from MOHLTC and resubmitting claims
- Answering and directing incoming phone calls.
- Filing and photocopying as required.
- Act as backup for patient receptionist as required.
- Backup for data entry clerk.
- Backup for various laboratory departments if experienced.
- Assisting reporting department as required.
- Booking appointments as required.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED is required.
- At least 1 year of administrative experience in a medical or healthcare setting is an asset.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines.
- Active listening skills.
- Capability in monitoring and evaluating performance to take corrective action or suggest improvements.
- Ability to solve complex problems by reviewing relevant information and developing or evaluating available options
- Excellent clerical and critical thinking skills
- Basic mathematical skills.
- Excellent communication skills to deal with medical insurance companies and to explain financial matters to patients and staff.
- Aboveaverage organizational skills to be able to locate files or patient records speedily.
- Attention to detail to maintain patient records proficiently and to check that the accounts have been entered accurately.
- The ability to process cash or credit card payments.
- Proficiency in account data input to prepare statements for patients.
- Knowledge of medical coding procedures.
- Other duties as assigned.
Pay:
$19.00-$22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 37.50 per week
