About Housing Squamish:


Born out of a partnership with the District of Squamish, the Squamish Community Housing Society, also known as Housing Squamish, is a new hub for housing in the Squamish community.

Housing Squamish is entirely dedicated to building partnerships, securing funding, coordinating and leveraging resources and supporting existing housing operators so that together we can increase housing options for everyone in Squamish.

We collaborate with the District of Squamish, local non-profit housing and social service agencies, the Squamish First Nation, other orders of government, and the community at large to deliver on our mission.


As a new and growing organization, we are committed to cultivating a culture of transparency, accountability, and learning, all within a dynamic start-up environment.

We have an ambitious plan for the next three years, focused on bringing affordable housing to our community, coordinating and improving affordable housing delivery, engaging, educating and advocating for housing, and embodying reconciliation, equity and good governance.


With initial projects set to go into occupancy in 2024 and additional projects currently in the pipeline, we are poised to grow both as a team and in our community impact over the next year.

We are currently hiring two positions - Manager of Society Operations and Manager of Housing Operations.


Position Overview:


Reporting to and working closely with the Executive Director, the Society Operations Manager plays a critical role in growing and supporting Housing Squamish's internal operations as we scale up to deliver on our mission and programs.

The Society and Operations Manager is directly responsible for ensuring sound financial oversight of our operations and programs; implementing our financial and budgeting systems; and overseeing society operations and infrastructure, governance, and human resources.


Primary Responsibilities:


  • Ensures effective financial management, cost controls, and financial risk management processes and policies are in place. Leads the development and management of the organizational budget and supports development of program budgets. Analyzes accounts and regularly reviews financial information with Executive Director.
  • In consultation with the organization's external bookkeeper, oversees the production of timely and relevant financial reports; ensures all aspects of Housing Squamish's dayto day finances (AR/AP, expenses, cashflow, etc.) are managed efficiently; ensure bookkeeping and payroll functions are performed effectively.
  • Ensure that organizational accounting policies and procedures are followed and work with bookkeeper, auditors, and others as needed to make or recommend refinements as necessary.
  • Ensures that systems are in place to support effective hiring, onboarding, evaluation, and exit processes. Lead the implementation and revision of Housing Squamish's human resources policies.
  • Provides leadership in developing internal culture, including ongoing relationship building and celebrations.
  • Ensures that human resources administration including employee insurance and benefits plans, ROEs, contracts, and other HR recordkeeping is carried out consistently and effectively and that an updated staff handbook is maintained.
  • Plays a central role in advancing the process of implementing Housing Squamish's strategic plan, including working with the Executive Director to ensure that resources and plans are in place to achieve established goals, and to ensure that progress is tracked and reported periodically to the Board.
  • Supports the Executive Director to ensure that the organization's governance processes function effectively and to assist the Board and its Committees by preparing reporting packages and other governance documents (e.g. board resolutions, policies, committee terms of reference); managing the Board Calendar, minutetaking, and ensuring governance records (e.g. minutes, documents, government filings) are appropriately maintained.
  • Supports the Executive Director to ensure that that all statutory and other requirements of the organization are met (e

g:
financial reporting, annual filings, WCB, statutory deductions, insurance, etc.).

  • Ensures that the Society's operational needs are adequately resourced and properly equipped with the required tools, training, and infrastructure. Ensure that all IT and document management functions are effectively managed. Oversees relationships with Housing Squamish's vendors, reviewing and negotiating contracts as appropriate. Ensures that vendor performance is appropriately monitored and managed.
  • Manages and updates internal/operational policies and procedures.
  • Undertakes other projects and duties as required to improve Housing Squamish's culture, management, internal systems, and operations.
