POSITION SYNOPSIS AND PURPOSE:

The delivery of small business support services for the City of St. Thomas is the responsibility of the St. Thomas Economic Development Corporation.

This non-union position, under the general direction of the Manager of Business Development & Entrepreneurship, is responsible for delivering quality business guidance through client consultations and for the operation of the Horton Farmers' Market.

The Horton Market Coordinator provides leadership support throughout the community and enhances the contribution that small businesses and the Market make to the economy of St.

Thomas and Elgin County, with a particular focus on those businesses involved in the food sector.


MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Client-focused Service

  • Respond to all enquiries and questions from businesses and partner organizations in the area, being the first point of contact for most enquiries.
  • Counsel and provide information to potential local entrepreneurs or investors, as well as earlystage business clients who wish to establish or expand a small business in St. Thomas & Elgin County on a variety of business topics and make referrals to appropriate agencies for financial or other advisory aid.
  • Work with multiple local organizations and community partners to assist with the coordination of special projects that encourage entrepreneurship or support small business development within St.
Thomas-Elgin.

Horton Farmers' Market

  • Coordinate and manage all aspects of the Horton Farmers' Market('Market')
  • Implement and manage all events at the Market.
  • Attend all Saturday Markets and all Marketrelated events, unless otherwise approved by the Manager.
  • Ensure that the Market site is clean and safe for vendors and visitors, following all local health guidelines, before and after events.
  • Represent the EDC at Farm Markets Ontario meetings and workshops at the direction of the Manager.
  • Prepare a monthly report of Market activities as directed.
  • Maintain an accurate list with contact information for all current and potential market vendors as well as a record of correspondence with potential new vendors.
  • Collect and record fees from vendors and remit all fees to the St.
Thomas EDC.

  • Assist the EDC Manager of Marketing & Communications in thedevelopment and implementation of a marketing plan for the Market.
  • Oversee and supervise any volunteers or summer students working at Market events.
Administrative

  • Maintain accurate records, monthly expenses, databases, economic statistics and client success stories for input into the provincial Enterprise Centre Reporting (ECR) system as required by contract for any clients who meet the criteria for the Small Business EnterpriseCentre
  • Note: The duties and responsibilities outlined above are representative but not allinclusive.
  • Note: All activities are expected to be performed in a safe manner, in accordance with the Occupational Health and Safety Act and its Regulations, along with Corporate Safety policies, procedures and programs. In addition, all necessary personal protective equipment must be used and maintained in good condition.

Minimum Qualifications:


  • Postsecondary diploma, preferably in business administration, marketing or a related field.
  • Has worked in a business setting with knowledge of operational and ownership conditions.
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment involving competing deadlines and challenging levels of expectations.
  • Must possess exceptional time management, organizational and communication skills.
  • Must have professional demeanor and interpersonal skills.
  • Financial literacy and the ability to understand financial spreadsheets and projections.

Hours of Work:
Part-Time Hours (approximately 24 hours per week). This is a temporary position to cover a leave of absence up to September 9, 2024. This role requires scheduled Friday and Saturday shifts. This position may include occasional after-hour partner events, workshops, presentations, training or other activities.

If there is an onsite issue with the Horton Market, this role is the contact who is usually called so may require a visit to the market after hours as needed in the moment.


Remuneration:
$25.36 per hour, plus 4% vacation pay.
