CASA Mental Health is an established non-profit organization delivering holistic, culturally-safe wrap-around mental health services to Albertans and their families.

CASA provides mental health services to the missing middle - mental health treatment for diagnosed children and youth, in between prevention and promotion in primary and community care and acute treatment in hospital.

CASA's team of mental health professionals are trauma experts committed to delivering service in collaboration with community partners.

This includes assessment and treatment for up to 4,000 children, youth and their families each year, from community outreach settings to intensive treatment programs.


About the Role

Reporting to the Clinical Manager, the Classroom Behavior Specialist works collaboratively with a multi-disciplinary team, First Nations school administrations and community service providers to provide timely, indigenous-informed service delivery in First Nation schools and in Specialized Therapeutic Classroom (STC) settings.

Patients include children, adolescents and families primarily residing on Alexander, Enoch Cree, Paul and Alexis Sioux Nakoda Nations.


The Classroom Behaviour Specialist works to support the mental health and well-being of children and adolescents through the integration of social-emotional skills and strategies that promote educational success and adaptive behaviour.

They support and monitor individual goals for children who require strategies to regulate their emotions and skills to enhance social relationships.

The Classroom Behaviour Specialist supports patients in gaining confidence in their skills; and themselves.

The successful Classroom Behaviour Specialist will also possess the following experience, knowledge, skills and abilities:

  • Strong assessment, treatment, case management and critical thinking skills.
  • Effective communication and problemsolving skills, and an ability to selfreflect as it relates to working within a demanding environment.
  • Practical experience in behavioural analysis and modification, strategy development and coaching allied professionals.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in psychology, social, or education
  • Advanced training and/or degree relating to children's mental health and education preferred.
  • Minimum of three years of practical experience in a children's mental health treatment setting, with a particular emphasis on dual diagnosis, learning disability, developmental delay and executive dysfunction.

Conditions of Employment

  • A satisfactory Child Intervention Check.
  • Proof of COVID19 vaccination or exemption on the basis of a protected legal ground.
  • Ability to pass and maintain Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) certification (training provided by CASA), as well as physical ability to perform all interventions.
  • This role requires the ability to work remotely in partner First Nation communities (Alexander, Enoch Cree, Paul and Alexis Sioux Nakoda Nations).
