Description
The Clinical Research Office supports the conduct of clinical research activities in the Trauma and Neurosurgery Program at St. Michael's Hospital.

The clinical research activities take place in various settings, including the Trauma and Neurosurgery Intensive Care Unit and Ward, the Emergency Department, the Operating Room, St.

Michael's Hospital Health Records, and the office itself.


Working under the direction of the Principal Investigators and Research Manager, the Research Data Analyst requires past experience in healthcare data analysis.

The Research Data Analyst must be able to interpret applicable regulations to ensure compliance during the conduct of the study.


What responsibilities will you have in this role?

  • Conducts exploratory and statistical analysis of data to identify differences in relationships between data;
  • Identifies methodological approaches and decides on data required to answer specific questions;
  • Applies statistical theories to build/restructures statistical models for data analysis using statistical software, e.g., R, SAS and converts database, as required, to support data analysis;
  • Applies statistical theories and appropriate methods to conduct exploratory and statistical analysis/interpretation of data, and tests data, as required, to identify reliability and validity;
  • Writes data handling programs, if required, that best facilitates data linkage, transfers and analyses;
  • Manipulates datasets for merging, sorting, matching and transforming;
  • Completes cleaning/consistency checks and other quality control measures necessary for the final analysis;
  • Prepares output of statistical analysis for review, including graphs, tables and written work;
  • Acts as a research analyst contact and ensures required protocols for the analysis are met; provides information/guidance to staff involved in the project; prepares and coordinates with internal and external research team members on the distribution of related reports;
  • Participates in the production and validation of data visualization dashboards/reports for publication;
  • Liaises with other researchers and works with external data sources (e.g. Statistics Canada, ICES) and relevant bodies in the healthcare system to collect information and/or to keep current with the latest initiatives in the system;
  • Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications:


  • A master's degree in statistics, biostatistics, epidemiology, or a related field is required or demonstrable equivalent combination of specialized education and experience;
  • Knowledge of privacy legislation and study protocols to support work activity required;
  • One (1) year experience in research and scientific writing required;
  • Experience with varied statistical methods, including multivariate modeling, propensity analysis, prediction modeling and multiple imputation required;
  • Experience with manipulating and linking large relational databases required;
  • Experience demonstrating the ability to perform data analyses and programming using advanced statistical software such as R or SAS required;
  • Knowledge of ICH Good Clinical Practice Guidelines required;
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and communicate with employees of varying levels of computer expertise required;
  • Strong critical thinking and problem solving skills required;
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills required;
  • Strong interpersonal skills required;
  • Ability to work in a diverse team environment required;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills required;
  • Ability to work independently with limited supervision required;
  • Good presentation skills required.
