Your Job

We need you, an individual that will manage and execute our annual marketing plan, provide strategic direction for social media content, build and manage protocols for communication channels, manage media buying and advertising purchases, build extensive and mid to high-profile media relationships, and provide leadership for an ongoing communications strategy.

As a member of our senior team, your position provides leadership for our partner businesses by fulfilling our strategic values and bringing accountable value-driven synergies through collaboration, creativity and knowledge.


We are looking for a megastar who will join our marketing dream team and take full-on responsibility for executing the objectives set out in our strategic plan and our marketing plan to drive visitation, brand awareness, and overall economic growth to Burlington.


Duties and Responsibilities:


  • Develop and execute the annual marketing plan for the organization;
  • Develop a social media content strategy for two social media handles (Tourism Burlington and Taste of Burlington);
  • Prepare, recommend, and implement policies and procedures for all existing and future external consumerfacing communication channels;
  • Supervise content creation and distribution through the following channels: social media, electronic newsletters, websites, and corporate communications;
  • Manage digital assets, and assess needs for both public relations and marketing assets;
  • Manage a departmental budget and spending related to marketing, projects and communications;
  • Project lead for the annual visitor information guide, tear map, and other marketing collateral;
  • Partner outreach and collaboration for joint or cooperative marketing campaigns;
  • Develop, review and execute the Request for Proposals/Quotes for marketingrelated suppliers, provide recommendation summaries to Executive Director for approval;
  • Monitor and evaluate key metrics and performance indicators related to the marketing and advertising initiatives, including digital and social media, websites, print campaigns and other related activities;
  • Responsible for presenting findings quarterly to the Executive Director and as needed to the Board of Directors;
  • Monitor and evaluate media, creative, and advertising trends in tourism and consumer experience;
  • Responsible for the daytoday management of partner communications, promotional support, collaboration and cocreation to strengthen to Tourism Burlington Brand;
  • Liaise with staff responsible for travel trade and group programs, events and other communication.

Requirements:

The ideal individual will possess the following qualifications and preferences:

  • 4-year University degree in Marketing, Communications, Journalism and/or Media Relations;
  • More than 5 years of progressive working experience in communications, marketing, and public relations, or equivalent fields through journalism and research;
  • Familiarity with SEO/SEM and Google AdWords and Analytics;
  • Outstanding organizational and time management skills;
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal and presentation skills;
  • Creative thinker with datadriven analytical aptitude.

Preferences

  • Direct experience developing and writing multiyear marketing plans;
  • Project management with marketingrelated projects, and tourism industryrelated plans;
  • Experience with midsize tourism destinations, regional tourism organizations, or associations;
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills;
  • Willingness to occasionally travel to Burlington locations.

Tourism Burlington is the official destination marketing organization for the City of Burlington, Ontario, Canada.

We are a non-profit organization managed by a volunteer, industry-led Board of Directors and funded primarily by the City of Burlington.

In addition to destination marketing, we operate a year-round visitor information centre.
