    The Department of Psychology in the Faculty of Arts invites applications for a Program Coordinator, Little Red Reading House position. This Full-time Fixed Term position is for approximately 12 months (based on length of grant funding), with the possibility of extension.

    Reports to Dr. Susan Graham, Owerko Centre Director.

    This role will require work under the direct supervision of the PI and will work collaboratively with the Owerko Centre and LRRH team. Some weekend and evening work may be required. Overtime is not expected or required.

    The stress level of the role is considered to be medium-level. The impact of error is medium-impact as accuracy and privacy of information are involved.

    The Little Red Reading House is a community-based research site of the Owerko Centre. The Owerko Centre brings together a multidisciplinary team of researchers to produce and translate research with a focus on neurodevelopment, child mental health, and neurodevelopmental disorders. The Owerko Centre is focused on being a champion for research, educating and training the next generation of cross-disciplinary researchers, and engaging the community. The Little Red Reading House provides a direct link to the community through community-facing not-for-profit organizations, caregivers, children, and educators. Reporting to the Director of the Owerko Centre, this position is an expert and resource for administration and customer support that are critical to the operations of the Little Red Reading House. The work of the Program Coordinator is performed within a deadline-driven, collaborative, and service-oriented team environment; the work can be stressful at times. The ability to take initiative, collaborate and deliver results and services both efficiently and effectively is necessary to succeed.

    Summary of Key Responsibilities (job functions include but are not limited to):

    • Leading and organizing the Little Red Reading House (LRRH), Little Red Reading Van (LRRV), and Book Bank, overseeing both internal and external initiatives and partnerships.
    • Programming and leading house visits for both families, community partners, and schools.
    • Ensuring the successful operation of LRRH and LRRV as a key assets and brands.
    • Responsively meeting the needs of clients, partner agencies, visitors, and fellow staff.
    • Managing the hello@ email address, promptly addressing inquiries from customers and partners.
    • Contributing to the oversight of LRRH Finances, maintaining accurate records and reconciliation within UCalgary financial systems.
    • Supervising social enterprise initiatives at LRRH, including family visits, school field trips, donations, special events, workshops, etc.
    • Facilitating opportunities for those furthest from opportunity to access the house and benefit from its offerings.
    • Cultivating a positive, collaborative relationship with LRRH Researcher in Residence for greater integration of science, programs, planning, partnerships, events and resources.
    • Overseeing house tasks (inside and outside), and coordinating building maintenance with UCalgary Facilities, resolving issues as they arise.
    • Serving as the main contact for the LRRH alarm security system.
    • Identifying and mitigating risk, reporting incidents and hazards according to the risk management process.
    • Managing and maintaining the effectiveness of the LRRH website, including booking management, house rentals, special events, workshops, new content, etc.
    • Collaborating with the Communications Lead to enhance social media presence and outreach opportunities.
    • Designing programs and content aligned with the organization's mission, vision, values, and strategic priorities for greater impact.
    • Developing resources that support the organization's mission, vision, values and strategic priorities.
    • Collaborating closely with LRRH Book Bank Manager to ensure inventory management, partnership opportunities, and support.
    • Testing and piloting to expand reach and complement existing resources.
    • Developing staff early literacy trainings, both internally and with affiliate and partner organizations.
    • Training, scheduling, and leading staff, volunteers, and practicum students in relevant projects.
    • Cultivating relationships with volunteers, acknowledging their integral role.
    • Managing volunteer opportunities using Better Impact.
    • Seeking funding opportunities through grants.
    • Completing driver training requirements and driving the Little Red Reading Van to community events.
    • Building and maintaining respectful relationships between UCalgary and stakeholders.
    • Integrating the Performance Imperative into collective and personal accountabilities.
    • Implementing and reviewing the Engagement Cycle for the Book Bank, including attracting, engaging, growing, sustaining, and renewing partnerships.

    Qualifications / Requirements:

    • Undergraduate education in a related field.
    • 5 - 7 years of related experience in a non-profit or public sector work environment.
    • Experience with volunteer management and staff supervision.
    • Experience with budgeting.
    • Strategic thinker, able to adapt to shifting priorities and circumstances.
    • Highly organized with strong communication skills.
    • Creative placemaker, able to infuse spaces with purpose and delight.
