Overview:


A Superintendent of Lafarge Construction in Saskatoon has direct responsibility and accountability for the safety and operational performance of the operations of the Lafarge construction division.

The Superintendent plays a key role in executing safety policies, performance plans, cost savings, KPI targets, manage equipment fleet, and work with staff to ensure projects are completed safely, on budget, with no deficiencies, and for customer satisfaction.- The Superintendent is integral in developing and maintaining Lafarge's Construction operations to increase construction revenue and capability.

This includes coaching and mentoring direct reports and continually promoting a culture of agility, collaboration, and empowerment (ACE) enabling continuous improvement.

- This job description pertains to the following functions in the business unit:

  • Grading/Base Install
  • Concrete Placement
  • Paving
  • Milling

Responsibilities:


  • Health and Safety:
  • Demonstrates a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to safety policies in all work environment areas.
  • Promotes a positive safety culture through demonstrated leadership
  • Ensures safe and healthy working conditions on sites under his/her responsibility
  • Ensure strict compliance with all health and safety rules and regulations
  • Financial Management:
  • Actively monitors projects performance with level of detail to drive execution and tracking
  • Ensures required field level financial documentation (monthly progresses, quantity sheets, etc) are being submitted accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Identifies areas of CAPEX to increase performance in operations
  • Customer Focus:
  • Maintains and manages customer relations to ensure retention, attraction and satisfaction
  • Continually seeks opportunities to present Lafarge Construction branded products to customers
  • Identifies and implements opportunities to maximize vertical integration of Lafarge Construction products
  • Operations Management:
  • Oversight and management of field operations on projects for the Pave and Construction division
  • Leads direct reports to ensure best practices, processes, and activities are optimized and costs are effectively managed.

Environment, Land & Community Relations:

  • Ensures all local, provincial and federal regulations are met or exceeded by following Lafarge Construction best practices and conditions of site permits
  • Ensures crews have been orientated and trained in environmental responsibilities
  • Follows Group and country corporate social responsibility objectives in pave and construction related community relations activities
  • People Management:
  • Encourages all employees to be accountable, collaborative and empowered
  • Interacts and develops a rapport with field staff. Is present in all locations of the operations, and to be open to all levels of the organization, to communication and concerns
  • Participates in the building of the career and succession plan for key positions and employees
  • Ensures the right persons are in the right position, reflecting the Group diversity commitments.
  • Hires and supports in investigations and progressive discipline in coordination with HR, as required.
  • Dimensions:
  • Direct Reports: direct reports and up to 40-50 indirect reports
  • Relationships: Effective working relationships with owners, engineers, consultants and the public. Internally works with all departments which are directly or indirectly involved with the project.
  • Volumes: Project can vary in size and scope
  • Project locations can be anywhere located in the Saskatoon Area with occasional projects outside of the Saskatoon
