Description:

The incumbent will provide support for the day-to-day activities of the Office of the Vice-Provost, Faculty & Academic Life.

These encompass a full range of academic human resource services in support of Dean's Offices, including the University of Toronto Mississauga and the University of Toronto Scarborough.

Using a broad range of understanding of the overall goals and objectives of the University and under the direction of the Associate Director, the incumbent reviews, advises and prepares correspondence on behalf of the Vice-Provost, Faculty & Academic Life in matters relating to the employment of academic staff.

The incumbent will support special projects in the Office of the Vice-Provost, Faculty & Academic Life.

The first initiative will be to support the development, coordination and implementation of the framework and process that will form the University's response to the principles on preventing sexual harassment in academia developed by the Association of American Universities (AAU).

Specifically, the incumbent will work closely with the Associate Director, Academic HR Services and the front-line Academic HR team to introduce a reference checking stage during the hiring process for faculty regarding any substantiated findings of misconduct or active investigations relating to sexual violence or sexual harassment.

As part of this, the Consultant will be responsible for coordinating key process initiatives associated with the new framework and the roll-out of this additional step in the recruitment process in the most effective way possible across the university.

The incumbent will also provide ongoing support for the process following its implementation.


Qualifications Required:


EDUCATION:

University degree required (graduate degree preferred) or equivalent combination of education and experience.


EXPERIENCE:

Minimum 5 years' related experience. Knowledge of the University of Toronto academic structure an asset.

Excellent knowledge of the University's academic policies and practices as they pertain to academic appointments, tenure, promotions, leaves and salary administration.

Proven ability in maintaining complex filing systems.


SKILLS:

Advanced analytical and computer skills - Microsoft Word, Excel, Access and HRIS required.


OTHER:

Excellent communication skills both oral and written. Superior organizational and interpersonal skills. Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.

Must have initiative; diplomacy and tact; ability to frequently adjust priorities; and ability to effectively deal with a variety of tasks and work to strict deadlines.

Must be able to handle matters of a confidential and sensitive nature.
