Purpose and Scope
The programs manager

  • Saskatoon will be responsible for the STR8 UP Program operations and staff management in Saskatoon. As an employee of STR8 UP, the PM will be under the general direction of the STR8 UP Executive Director and will work as a member of the STR8 UP Leadership Team. The PM will supervise and direct a team of full and part time outreach workers, cultural workers, education and employment workers, lived experienced mentors and support staff.

STR8 UP and Gang Violence Reduction Strategy - Community Intervention Model


STR8 UP has entered into a contract with the Saskatchewan Ministry of Corrections and Policing to provide gang-exit outreach services for the central and northern regions of the province who meet the program criteria.


STR8 UP Community Outreach
STR8 UP assists individuals in mastering their own destiny and liberating themselves from gangs, addictions and criminal street lifestyles.

This is achieved by our 4 pillars of outreach (incarcerated and in community), personal healing, professional development and community education.


Responsibilities Will Include:


  • Manage, mentor, train, evaluate and coach helpers and provide ongoing professional development
  • Have a strong understanding of the STR8 UP philosophy and culture and be able to implement in all areas of the workplace
  • Being familiar with and carrying out the various programs' requirements
  • Supervising and directing the programs and those employed to deliver it
  • Engaging and working with the agency partners, criminal justice stakeholders, community organizations and those interested in the programs
  • Receiving and meeting with referrals and their outcomes
  • Identify partnerships for services in the community
  • Be familiar with and implement an understanding of STR8 UP philosophy, mission and values
  • Ensuring that the STR8 UP path to membership is being organized and followed
  • Be responsible for and monitor compliance with contracted goals and requirements, including: client to staff ratio, riskmanagement implementation, staff training, client programming, recordkeeping, reporting and privacy
  • Strategic planning and developing new programming
  • Participate in outreach work on a limited basis, with a view to improve the experiences between client and outreach worker for growth
  • Understanding and participating in community presentations
  • Being a presence within the provincial and federal facilities
  • Advocate in justice, corrections, social service sectors and for community supports
  • Provide information about services and opportunities in the community
  • Meet with staff to help develop new initiatives and strengthen organizational strategies


To qualify, you will have a BA or equivalent education in human services in any of the following fields: Social Work, Indigenous Social Work, Human Justice, Arts: Justice Studies, Psychology, Sociology, Criminology, and Indigenous Studies, and/or relevant experience equivalent.


Key Competencies:

  • Ability to effectively manage a diverse staff working in a challenging environment
  • At least 5 years social justice sector experience
  • Criminal record and vulnerable sector checks
  • Valid drivers license
  • Knowledge of Indigenous and Metis traditions, protocols and cultural practices
  • Knowledge of community support programs
  • Knowledge of criminal justice system
  • Knowledge and understanding of outreach work
  • Knowledge and understanding of housing programs
  • Practical, organized, decisive, motivated to learn and openminded
  • Excellent personnel management, administrative interpersonal, communication, negotiation and mediation skills
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Critical thinking and problemsolving skills
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques
  • Understanding professional boundaries
  • A valid Class 5 Driver's License is required to perform the duties of this position

Salaries are based on STR8 UP current salary grid $30.00 to $38.00 per hour
