Alberta Education supports students, parents, teachers and administrators from Early Childhood Services (ECS) through Grade 12.

The Ministry is responsible for:

developing and evaluating curriculum; teacher development and certification; supporting students with diverse learning needs; funding and supporting school boards; First Nations, Métis and Inuit and Francophone education; and overseeing basic education policy and regulations.


The Program and System Support Division provides strategic leadership and support services to the Early Childhood Services to Grade 12 education system, and facilitates effective and collaborative relationships with school authorities and stakeholders.


The Field Services Sector provides guidance to school authorities to ensure the successful implementation of education-related legislation, regulations, policies, programs, and initiatives.

Role Responsibilities:


Reporting to the Priorities Manager, this position provides strategic information advice, coordination and recommendations to the Field Services sector, the Program and System Support Division, and senior leaders as required.

This includes developing information materials for stakeholders and the department, providing analysis and recommendations on key issues, and coordinating department-wide requests and priorities.

The Strategic Information Coordinator actively builds collaborative relationships and seeks opportunities to work together with other staff across the sector, division and ministry.


  • Tracks short and longterm issues and assesses information to identify inconsistencies and gaps.
  • Supports the Minister and Deputy Minister tours as required, coordinating crossministry briefings on initiatives, activities and issues.
  • Coordinates information such as data requests, school closure lists, webpage updates.
  • Completes Action Requests (AR's) as required, including the drafting of correspondence on behalf of the senior leadership and completing briefing notes.
  • Leads the establishment and maintenance of consistent processes across the sector (e.g., training, templates, process documents).
  • Oversees the facilitation of learning presentations for sector staff to ensure they are apprised of and familiar with department initiatives.
  • Identifies, evaluates and researches complex and sensitive issues and develops briefings with recommendations for consideration by senior and executive management.
  • Engages with others in a collaborative manner that demonstrates teamwork, integrity, and good citizenship within the department.
  • Providing information, advice, and guidance to support Policy & Priority work.
  • Participates on internal, crossministry and crossgovernment committees and working groups as needed.

Qualifications:

University graduation in a related field plus 2 years progressively responsible related experience; or equivalent as described below.

Equivalency:
Directly related education or experience considered on the basis of:

  • 1 year of education for 1 year of experience; or
  • 1 year of experience for 1 year of education.

This is (1) permanent, full-time positions working 36.25 hours per week, Monday to Friday.
