**In this newly created role we are looking for a Wellness Coordinator to work directly with employees and LPS Executive on wellness initiatives.
The Wellness Coordinator focus is employee wellbeing promotion and injury/illness prevention programs. The position facilitates employee wellness initiatives and resources, and assists with the development and implementation of plans and procedures.


As the Wellness Coordinator you will:


Develop programming and planning:


  • Implements supports, education and awareness initiatives to improve the function, health and overall quality of life for all employees
  • Promotes a broader psychological wellness approach and provide a coordinated response to mental health
  • Support and assists with the development of internal psychological wellness procedures, plans and strategies aligned with current best practices.
  • Evaluating, exploring and participating in an early intervention program with a focus on supporting employees
  • Promotes a positive environment for the open discussion about mental health through strategies to reduce stigma
  • Promotes and facilitates wellness promotion initiatives (Lunch and Learns, incentive challenges, etc.)
  • Recommends initiatives and goals of workplace wellness programs as part of the strategic direction of the Service.

Training and Administering Resources:


  • Develops and delivers ongoing wellness training and information, mental health and wellness initiatives, new employee orientation and family events, and wellness initiatives for new supervisory training.
  • Organizes training opportunities for employees and family relating to wellness initiatives
  • Ensures training is offered for new employees and supervisors as it relates to wellness initiatives
  • Actively works to maintain and promote a culture of understanding and inclusivity related to the impact of the environmental and individual stressors our employees face.
  • Promotes and maintains centralized resources for access by all employees and their families.

Developing Partnerships:


  • Collaborates with senior leaders to assist in expanding mental health programs and resources available for employees.
  • Provides support and assistance to employees and acts as a resource supporting healthy lifestyles, exercise, injury prevention and fitness development.
  • Works with and liaises with employees, supervisors, Association, Wellness Committee, and crisis support to ensure a consistent and coordinated approach to support employees and their families.
  • Liaises with the Support Services Section (Training Unit), Human Resource Section and relevant internal committees by promoting programs to support the physical activity and health of employees ranging from general health programs to customized performance and fitness programs.
  • Consults and develops strong partnerships with local treatment centres, fitness providers and healthcare providers to aid in expediency with referrals. Fosters external partnerships and collaborates with professional providers, industry partners and support programs.
  • Establishes relationships with relevant educational institutions and professional organizations to gain critical information respecting the effectiveness of resiliency/wellness initiative and maintain current knowledge of industry trends and practices.
  • Liaise with the Police Psychologist team, the City of Lethbridge Disability Management team, and LPS Occupational Health & Safety Committee.

Supports Employees and Internal Teams

  • Provides support to the Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) Team and other wellness initiatives.
  • Supports and promotes early intervention procedures and the mobilization of supports and practices following critical incidents/events.
  • Organizes post incident peer support activities for employees and employee families.
  • Ensures CISM members understand adherence to confidentiality in support of creating a safe and supportive climate for employees requiring assistance.
  • Monitors critical incident calls identified through the approved procedures, systems and alerts.

Reports and Measurement

  • Prepares and generates various statistical reports by conducting research, gathering and summarizing information.
  • Prepares and formats reports, presentations, and memos.
  • Develops a measurement system to evaluate the impact, efficiency and effectiveness of wellness program initiatives through data collection, analysis and reporting of trends and strategic drivers.
  • Collects nonpersonal identifying data with support from multiple sources to analyze impact of wellness and resiliency building strategies and continuous program improvement.

Data Management / Files and E-Resource Materials

  • Creates and maintains the unit files manually and electronically in accordance with Service policy.
  • Develops and maintains a wellness page as a centralized resource for employees
