We're looking for an ambitious and hard-working professional to join our Pemberton team in the role of
IPM Specialist IPM Specialists are responsible for program execution and control of all areas of IPM under the guidance of the Production Manager and Cultivation Manager.

They will participate in the IPM activities such as scouting, controlling pests and pathogens through sprays and biological releases, sampling and maintenance of IPM related equipment.

In addition, they will be responsible for maintaining inventory of IPM related resources such as pesticides, sticky cards and equipment.

They will serve as the first point of contact with biological control agent vendors.

IPM specialists will participate in training of plant work technicians in areas pertaining to IPM and will participate in plant work technician activities as required.


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES:


  • Participate in the continuous scouting and monitoring of the crop for health, pest and diseases
  • Inspect main areas of concern such as leaves, stems, flowers and rootzone.
  • Assist Manager in the formulation of beneficial control agent release data and program execution according to guidelines set by management. This will include and understanding of scheduling of IPM program aspects and scheduling in the absence of the manager
  • Release biological control agents (BCA's) as part of the Integrated Pest Management (IPM) program.
  • Communicate and escalate all issues with the crop and/or the production process to all the relevant parties as required
  • Participate in the collection of samples for disease management and crop improvement
  • Training of plant work technicians in all aspects of integrated pest management
  • Manage inventory of biological control agents and participate in maintaining adequate stock levels of biologicals, as well as pesticides and checking quality.
  • Participate in cultivation related activities such as pruning, defoliating, crop maintenance, harvesting, trimming and cycle turnover as required.
  • Where applicable, must adhere to Aurora's SOPs and comply with Health Canada's Cannabis Act. In addition, must adhere to ISO 9001:2015 (Quality Management System), ISO Environment Management System) and OHSAS Occupational Health and Safety Assessment Series).
  • Recognize unsafe conditions and practices and make corrections to prevent injuries and product loss.
  • Continuous educational development in the areas pertaining to IPM and cannabis
  • Updating and reviewing IPM program according to the Cannabis Act and other regulatory framework
  • Other duties as assigned

EXPECTATIONS

  • Grower Pesticide Safety Course completed within 6 months of start date
  • Strong IPM background: able to identify pests, beneficial controls as well as innocuous aspects of organic cannabis production, with an emphasis on continuously updating knowledge base
  • Strong communication skills this position requires interaction with other teams, as well as training of plant workers.

  • Must be able to work unsupervised
  • The IPM specialist is expected to be well versed in the understanding of label instructions including those that pertain to health and safety of themselves, the crop and the disposal of product. Additionally, they must be attentive to the legal framework guiding use of pesticides.

WORKING CONDITIONS:


  • Physical effort is required, lifting, pushing, and pulling up to 55 lbs.
  • Temperatures range from 18 degrees Celsius to 32 degrees Celsius.
  • Ability to work weekends, holidays and after hours as required.
  • Repetitive use of hands, wrists and forearms.
  • Requires standing
