About the Kwantlen Student Association

The Kwantlen Student Association (KSA) is the official student society representing over 20,000 KPU students across five campuses in Surrey, Langley, Richmond, and Cloverdale.

The KSA is responsible for providing a range of student services and advocating to protect and advance students' rights and interests.

The KSA runs the Grassroots Café, providing food, beverage, and catering services — providing student employment and generating revenue for our student services.

Serving a richly diverse membership, the KSA is governed by a board of directors (called Council) elected annually by and from KPU students.

An Executive Committee supports that governance work by providing day-to-day elected leadership, and the KSA's operations are managed by an Executive Director and professional staff team.

About this opportunity

The KSA's Human Resources Manager, reporting to the Executive Director, leads the KSA's human resources functions including hiring and onboarding processes, labour relations, workplace health and safety, and supporting compliance with employment and human resources policies to support the success of a team of more than 50 student and non-student professionals.

As the KSA's Human Resources Manager, you would play a critical role in building a staff team that has the training and support that they need to transform the priorities of elected students on Council and the Executive Committee into real impact for KPU students.

Some of your key responsibilities and functions as the KSA's Human Resources Manager would include:

  • Developing and implementing strategies for the retention of current talent, identifying needs for and the recruitment of future talent, and succession planning.
  • Supporting the KSA's labour relations functions including negotiations, grievance resolution, and the administration of collective agreements.
  • Managing the KSA's talent acquisition process including determining hiring needs and then supporting the recruitment, interviewing, and hiring of qualified applicants, and managing the employee onboarding process.
  • Developing and supporting the implementation of a robust orientation and training program for the KSA's staff team, including internal development activities to promote employees' continuous improvement.
  • Acting as a resource to the Executive Director, the Executive Committee, and Council respecting the KSA's role as an employer, including staying on top of and advising the KSA of human resources best practices.
  • Supporting the KSA's health and safety program including ensuring a violence and harassmentfree workplace and providing support for required inspections and investigations.
