- Student Recruitment and Engagement: Primary point of contact for the College of Natural & Applied Sciences (CNAS) Student Recruitment Centre of Expertise ensuring that the Faculty of Engineering has open lines of communication and works in collaboration with partners to achieve Faculty admission objectives in alignment with the University and Faculty commitments to Indigenous Initiatives and Equity, Diversity and Inclusivity.
- Lead and oversight for Faculty of Engineering Student Events (First Year Night, all student engagement events) – communicates and delegates to First Year Coordinator.
- Develops initiatives and programs related to student life (especially incoming and new students) including new student orientation working in collaboration with the First Year Director and Faculty Stakeholders such as the Associate Dean Programs and Associate Dean Students. Investigate and make recommendations on measuring student engagement.
- Develops and oversees a comprehensive student engagement retention, and outreach strategy and plan
- Development of strategic outreach plans for faculty-wide student initiatives and the implementation of all student-based outreach activities
- Faculty Representative: Speak or make decisions on behalf of the Faculty of Engineering serving to represent Faculty interests while additionally communicating back to the Faculty from undergraduate student related central units (i.e. Registrar's Office) and the Engineering Students' Society.
- Scholarships and Awards: Attend and serve as FoE Representative for ACUS (Advisory Committee on Undergraduate Supports) Finance and FoE Representative for SFS (Student Financial Supports) and coordinate the annual Scholarship processes working with Departments and the RO. Attend bi-monthly meetings with FoE Development team (coordination of donor engagement).
- Point of contact for external (non UofA) Scholarship nomination process and prepare applications including writing letters of support and submissions.
- Manage and/or participate in the selection process for some scholarships and awards.
- Facilitation and Mentorship with Engineering Student Groups: Serves as a contact for Faculty of Engineering student groups (excluding curricular project groups and professional societies chapters) and serves as primary faculty support and advisor to the groups as needed
- Maintains a familiarity with faculty and university matters related to student life and student groups, and provides advice to the Dean's Office and Departments on matters related to student groups.
- Communications: Oversee EnggLife newsletter; Member of Student Services communication strategy team; Liaise with CNAS Communications partner for larger initiatives
- Relationship Manager: Fosters collaboration within the area and across the university. Share information when appropriate. Identifies opportunities and develops strategies for collaboration. Encourages staff to participate in collaborative initiatives.
- Leadership and Management: Responsible for leading and mentoring a small team; directly supervises the First Year Coordinator, providing motivation and support to build a highly productive and efficient team; ensures effective communication within the team and is proactive in managing staff issues
- An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline is required.
- 5-10 years of experience in a higher education administrative setting is required.
- An in-depth knowledge of student services, ideally acquired through a minimum of 3-5 years of progressive experience.
- Evidence of commitment to, and execution of, a leadership philosophy, the ability to exercise excellent judgment, and to problem solve autonomously when appropriate.

Position Summary
Reporting to the Manager, Student Services, Co-op and Engineering Career Connections, the Student Engagement Officer leads a wide range of initiatives and programs that support the Engineering student community and enhance student engagement. The Officer represents the Faculty of Engineering on a number of university-wide committees, Faculty committees, and at student, Faculty and larger University events, serving as a representative for Engineering to the larger community. The Officer is a portfolio leader and also provides strategic advice on a number of matters related to student recruitment and engagement. The position works in alignment with Academic Advising Services and serves engineering students by creating a clear path that supports them throughout their programs and enables them to complete their programs on time, overcome barriers to success, and enjoy a positive educational experience. The Officer is responsible for an innovative and efficient "students first" model that fosters engagement among students, staff, alumni, and other stakeholders while supporting the Faculty's reputation for excellence.
