Purpose:
To inspire, educate, and empower people to appreciate, enjoy, and care for British Columbia's parks and protected places.


Overview:


Our mission is to inspire and empower people to enjoy and protect parks and Indigenous protected areas in BC, so that they flourish for now, for all, forever.

We are the official charitable partner and conservation financing mechanism to the sixth largest system of parks and indigenous protected areas in the world, with over 1,034 parks and more than 26 million visits per year.

Our goal is to create the greatest system of parks and indigenous protected areas in the world.


Discover Parks, an initiative by the BC Parks Foundation, aims to inspire and educate people about the natural wonders of British Columbia.

Through four key components - Discover Park Ambassadors, Discover Trails, , and Discovery Centres - the program fosters connections to nature, promotes responsible outdoor recreation, and builds a legacy of park stewardship.

Role Summary:


We're seeking an enthusiastic Interpretive Coordinator to join our Discover Parks team In this role, you'll be the creative force behind developing and refining programs that will be delivered by our Discover Parks Ambassadors.

You'll also play a crucial part in coordinating, training, and evaluating the Discover Parks programs and staff, ensuring that our educational and interpretive initiatives inspire, educate, and empower park visitors.


Responsibilities include:


  • Program Excellence: Design, refine, and evaluate interpretive and educational programs, ensuring they align with our mission to connect people with BC's parks, focusing on conservation and community.
  • Ambassador Leadership: Coordinate and enhance the training of Discover Parks Ambassadors, empowering them to effectively engage and inspire park visitors.
  • Collaborative Innovation: Foster innovation and inclusivity within the program by collaborating with team members, community groups, Indigenous groups, and maintaining constructive relationships with BC Parks and other partners.
  • Strategic Insight: Stay abreast of industry trends to inform program enhancements, report on program metrics, and develop strategies and policies to optimize impact and mitigate risks.
  • Other duties as required

Requirements:


  • Minimum 3 years' experience in a similar position or related field
  • Strong desire to build productive relationships with Indigenous peoples and local interest groups
  • Proven ability to develop exceptional recreational programming
  • Strong knowledge of BC's cultural and natural history
  • Excellent organizational and communication skills
  • Strong writing skills with the ability to effectively review written materials for accuracy and precision
  • Ability to exercise good judgement

Skills and experience considered an asset:

  • Post-secondary education in a related field
  • Fluency in a second language

  • This is a fulltime position (40 hrs/week, Monday to Friday)
