Description
Under the supervision of the Youth Program Coordinator, the Youth Program Facilitator will provide assistance in programming, planning activities, events, and on- going workshops as well as acting as a resource and role model for youth clients accessing the Drop-In Centre.
Roles and Responsibilities
- Develop, implement, evaluate, and modify social, cultural and physical activities for youth;
- Motivate youth by using enthusiasm, energy and positive reinforcement;
- Encourage youth input into service delivery;
- Interview youth presenting with problems such as homelessness, personal and family adjustment challenges, difficulty with finances, unemployment, lack of food, addictions, and physical and mental impairments to determine nature and degree of problem;
- Refer youth to community resources and other organizations and provide appropriate follow up to ensure that their needs are being met
- Compile records and prepare reports;
- Responsible for supervising youth during onsite and offsite activities and programs
- Participate and develop program activities
- Participate in weekly team meetings by communicating ideas, issues and options;
- Keep accurate and uptodate information for statistical reporting
- Complete general tasks as assigned by the Youth Program Co-Coordinator.
- Diploma or degree in the social services or a related field of study
- Empathy with an ability to relate with at risk youth
- Demonstrated ability to mobilize youth to develop new skills, and motivate youth to participate in activities that will improve their quality of life
- Knowledge of community resources, especially supports for homeless youth
- Knowledge of native culture and traditions would be considered an asset
- Knowledge of confidentiality requirements of both the Centre and client information.
- One year of experience working in the social service sector, gained either through employment or student placement

- AEC / DEP or Skilled Trade Certificate (preferred)
