  • DESCRIPTION

    FPInnovations' objective is to educate and support the forest industry in a shift towards digital transformation. The candidate will play a key role within the Forestry team to develop and deliver impactful solutions by working closely with our industry members, government partners, and academic collaborators across Canada. The project consists of raising industry awareness of the potential of digital transformation by supporting forestry contractors with training on the calibration and standardization of harvesting head data, conducting data extraction solution tests, and working on data warehouse structure and various visualization solutions. The candidate will work as part of a team of 12 researchers and technicians under the direction of the Manager - Forestry East.

    FPInnovations is committed to providing support in the transition to a more efficient use of digital data generated by harvesting machines (multipurpose harvester and processor). This involves support in working methods to ensure data quality, extraction and transfer, as well as remote analysis to generate relevant information for contractors and forestry companies.

    RESPONSIBILITIES

    Primary Responsibilities:

  • Digital transformation of the supply chain (focus with on-board computer data) and the transfer of technology and knowledge to our industry partners
  • Supporting forestry contractors in the application of a calibration protocol for harvesters & processors
  • Support forestry contractors in the adjustment and implementation of standardization and data communication solutions offered by FPI
  • - Secondary Responsibilities:

  • Project management and work with different internal teams and our external partners (demonstrate collaboration)
  • Understand the issues faced by timber harvesting teams and propose impact solutions that bring clear benefits to members
  • Participate in the development of project proposals and their effective delivery (FPI project life cycle)
  • Contribute to the growth of innovation to improve forestry practices
  • Rigorously validate these innovations to facilitate their implementation in Canada's major forest ecosystems (demonstrate integrity)
  • Write detailed reports and present them to clients in a summary format that clearly displays the impact of the work and the gains delivered to clients (client orientation)
  • QUALIFICATIONS

  • University degree in forest operations or forest management (Master's degree an asset)
  • 3-5 years experience in forestry (harvesting/forest planning)
  • Member of a professional order (e.g. OIFQ)
  • Good knowledge of industrial harvesting challenges and management processes in forest operations in the public forest in Quebec and in general in Eastern Canada
  • Advanced knowledge of the operation of harvesting systems commonly used in Eastern Canada
  • SKILLS

  • Strong ability to propose innovative solutions to the fiber supply challenges of processing facilities (creative)
  • Ability to adapt to changing industry priorities (agile)
  • Ability to take ownership of new data analysis tools in complex settings (demonstrate curiosity)
  • Fluency in English and in French (written and spoken) and ability to synthesize the impact of the results of their work for various audiences (university, contractor, client, etc.)
  • Availability for travel in the bush across Canada and have a valid driver permit.
