Champ's Fresh Farms Inc. is Western Canada's largest mushroom distributor located in the Fraser Valley of southwestern British Columbia.

Our growing business is seeking an experienced Mushroom Grower who possesses proven leadership skills, as well as a strong ability to deal with change across a multi-site operation and make sound decisions that encourage corporate growth.

***The Mushroom Grower works under the direction of the Director of Growing in the Growing Department and is concerned with checking the harvest room daily and ensuring that the rooms are watered, cleaned, and disease free. The Grower also supervises and coordinates the loading and unloading process and supervises all men's work employees. The farm operates 365 days a year, so the Grower is required to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays as needed.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Ensure substrate preparation and cultivation for all types of mushroom growing
  • Ensure environment control, including temperature control, relative humidity, light, and acidity of the mushroom growing process
  • Distribute water onto the mushroom growing beds as needed
  • Ensure the plastic is placed on the mushroom growing beds as needed
  • Check all growing rooms on all the farms for accurate temperatures, working control systems, otherdirected needs
  • Check all steam boilers and mushroom house boilers to ensure the machinery is working properly
  • Make sure all properties are secure; follow daily instructions given by the growing staff
  • Ensure all Food Safety and Quality concerns are immediately addressed with the Harvesting Supervisor(s)
  • Ensure workers wash and sanitize the halls and pick room floors as needed or directed
  • Ensure set up and removal of the chiller in rooms as needed
  • Disease management; prevention and control of disease through communication, monitoring, and SOP's (Standard Operation Procedures)
  • To follow and help develop farmrelated SOPs. Monitor all aspects of crop performance to achieve KPIs. Evaluate and review staff performance
  • Ensure the setup and removal of fly traps as needed, along with other general maintenance tasks as required for the operation of mushroom growing
  • Assist the Harvesting Supervisors

To be considered for this position you must meet the following requirements

QUALIFICATIONS AND EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Grade 12 level education
  • Minimum 2 to 3 years of experience in mushroom growing
  • Experience in mushroom, horticultural, and/or agricultural fields. Previous mushroom farm experience or similar industry is an advantage
  • Previous supervisory experience is highly desirable; able to effectively supervise employees
  • Excellent oral communication skills, organized, and flexibility
  • Good judgment, attention to detail, and team player
  • Ability to work under pressure and stand for extended periods of time
  • Command of English language. The ability to speak another language is an asset. Excellent communication skills
  • Awareness of company policies and procedures; knowledge of hygiene/HACCP practices, knowledge of health and safety rules and regulations
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts including weekends and evenings
  • Highly organized with excellent time management/priority setting skills, and knows how to make the right decisions
