Description

The Public Employees Pension Board is responsible for overseeing the Public Employees Pension Plan (PEPP) - the largest defined contribution (DC) pension plan in Canada, with a portfolio of managed assets exceeding $12 billion and serving about 70,000 members.

The Board has a simple but lofty mission to provide members with an exceptional defined contribution pension plan.

The Board is the trustee of PEPP and is responsible for key strategic decisions and implementation of those decisions relating to the investment of PEPP assets.

The Board is seeking an independent investment expert to assist it in carrying out its responsibilities related to investing.

Special Aide to the Board

The Special Aide will assist the Board in its oversight of investment service providers, including Plannera Pensions and Benefits (Plannera), the Board's investment consultant and any other investment-related service providers.

Sitting with the Board, the Special Aide will seek clarification from advisors, give voice to concerns about information or recommendations provided to the Board and suggest opportunities for the Board to seek additional information from advisors prior to the Board rendering a decision.

While the Special Aide will not act as a Board member or in an advisory capacity, an appropriate means of indemnification will be provided.

Likely preparation for this role will include:

  • Investment industry-recognized designation such as a Chartered Financial Analyst.
  • Significant experience in the investment industry.
  • Board governance experience.
  • Exceptional communication skills.
  • Knowledge of pension plans.
  • Independence:
  • Derives no benefit from any current or potential service providers to Plannera or
the Board (neither an employee nor a shareholder); and

  • Is not employed by any appointing body; and
  • Is not employed by a PEPPparticipating employer.
Please note that the incumbent can reside anywhere in Canada. Preference is for attendance at board meetings in person, however a virtual option is available. Meeting frequency is anticipated to be 7-9 times per year at PEPP's expense.
