What you'll do
Join our dynamic Distribution Engineering team, where innovation meets impact. Our team of dedicated engineering
professionals is at the forefront of connecting new customers, from commercial developments in Mission to hospitals in
Cloverdale, residential developments in Richmond, and major infrastructure projects like the Skytrain expansion in Surrey
and Langley.
As a member of the Distribution Engineering Projects team based in Burnaby (Edmonds), you'll play a crucial role in
delivering technical engineering excellence for capital system improvements and major distribution projects. These projects
serve the domestic, industrial, and commercial load primarily within the Lower Mainland region. Your expertise will also
support Capital Programs and provide valuable assistance to the Regional Distribution Engineering Team when needed.

The positions include, but are not limited to, the following capabilities and duties:
Provide professional and technical advice for System Improvement and Major Distribution customer projects.
Act as a Professional of Record and/or Owner's Engineer for Distribution Projects.
Fulfill the role of Owner's Engineer by reviewing the work of external consultants to ensure accuracy, achieve required
results, meet BC Hydro system needs, and adhere to accepted engineering practices.
Investigate, analyze, and solve a variety of challenging and unusual engineering problems. Contribute to the development
of technical standards, guides, and design practices.
Perform comprehensive circuit analysis, including load flow, voltage stability, fault current, motor start, power quality
emission limits, and protection coordination studies. Design equipment settings accordingly.
Make recommendations for system improvements and the seamless connection of new customers to the Distribution
Engineering Regional teams and Distribution Planning team.
Share engineering knowledge by providing clear instructions, advice, and technical guidance to other engineers, project
managers, designer technicians, design technologists, and technical support staff.
Collaborate closely with stakeholders to reach consensus and drive innovation. Find engineering solutions that add value,
prioritize employee and public safety, protect the environment, balance competing interests, and consider full life cycle
costs.
Develop and maintain effective professional relationships with both internal and external colleagues and clients.
Determine relative priorities, assess the impact of work on others, and proactively resolve any issues of concern.
Work independently, typically under general direction, with assignments defined in terms of broadly defined objectives and
budget limitations. Seek guidance from managers in critical areas or for high-profile work that could impact the efforts of
others.
Collaborate effectively with Regional and Program teams to deliver Capital Projects seamlessly.
What you bring
Hold a degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized/accredited university. Candidates with engineering degrees in
other disciplines may be considered if they possess the required level of applicable experience for this position.
Be registered as a Professional Engineer with Engineers and Geoscientists of BC (EGBC) or be eligible for immediate
registration.
Possess a minimum of 8 years of relevant engineering experience in utility distribution engineering or a related industry.
Demonstrate comprehensive technical knowledge in both overhead and underground electric utility distribution systems,
including those operating at voltages up to and including 35kV.
Have a proven track record of working on projects in roles such as Professional of Record and Owner's Engineer.
Exhibit exceptional verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to effectively convey technical concepts andpresent proposed solutions to diverse audiences. Adapt communication style to suit the understanding levels of the
audience.
Embody and uphold values of safety, teamwork, service, integrity, accountability, and ingenuity, aligning with the
company's core principles.
Showcase strong leadership abilities, including relationship management and interpersonal skills, fostering collaboration
within teams and with stakeholders.
Demonstrate outstanding organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills, with a track record of applying practical
knowledge and sound judgment to analyze and resolve complex problems.
Possess a solid understanding of project lifecycles, including initiation, planning, design, implementation, and project
closure phases. Familiarity with project management methodologies such as PMI is a plus.
