    The salary scale for Professional Support 2 is based on twelve steps that range from $58, $81, New Professional Support may receive up to a maximum of seven steps for relevant occupational experience which is $70,397.86 annually.

    Qualifications

    Qualifications and Occupational Experience:

    • An undergraduate degree in social services, or a related discipline, with a concentration or additional certification in adult education, neuroeducation, special education, psychology, educational psychology, counselling, social work or other related field. Certification in Applied Disability Studies and/or a Learning Strategist Certificate would be considered an asset.
    • A minimum of five years of recent and related occupational experience supporting persons with intellectual disabilities and autism spectrum disorder and working with individuals with social and emotional issues.
    • Experience in preparing, delivering, and evaluating curriculum and training for students requiring specialized support.
    • Experience that includes working closely with high school guidance counsellors and the recruitment of students into specialized programs would be considered an asset.
    • Experience using computer applications such as the Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
    • You are comfortable working in a digital environment; you take responsibility for acquiring knowledge about advancing technology; and you are committed to using technology to create an exceptional student experience.

    Responsibilities

    In partnership with the campus Achieve Team, you will be responsible for the development and provision of the Achieve program. In addition, this position will provide leadership and guidance in the promotion, planning, implementation, assessment, and evaluation of the Achieve program.

    Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to leading and/or supporting the following:

    • Increasing the awareness of the Achieve program with the community(s)
    • Working with partners to promote and support the applications of potential students.
    • Coordinating admission process and leading admission Interviews
    • Facilitating and supporting program planning
    • Development of program schedule(s) and delivery of select courses/classes
    • Facilitating Team cohesiveness
    • Facilitating on-going program review
    • Stewardship of program resources
    • Facilitating transitioning in and out of the program
    • Developing and maintaining service partnerships
    • Facilitating program development, delivery, and evaluation
    • Networking with other programs and agencies
    • Acting as a resource to other team members
    • Resourcing opportunities for other campus program connections

    Organization Structure:

    This position reports directly to the Academic Chair, School of Access and provides daily functional guidance and support to the Employment Specialist and the Program Assistant.

    Additional Information

    As a condition of employment, Professional Support employees at NSCC must complete a two-year (part-time) adult education program delivered by NSCC. This adult education program is a significant investment on the part of NSCC in the learning and development of new employees. To achieve regular status; all probationary, full or part-time Professional Support employees of the College must successfully complete the program within their probationary period. Term full-time Professional Support employees whose term appointment is twelve or more months are also required to participate in this program.

    Candidates selected for interviews will be expected to provide at least three recent, occupational references. The successful candidate will be expected to provide official transcripts to show proof of academic achievements.
