  • The Traffic Preventative Maintenance Coordinator is a key member of the Traffic Maintenance team, providing quality service delivery by conducting ongoing inspections of various assets, creating work orders to address noted deficiencies, undertaking preliminary inspection of work completed by outside parties prior to deploying HRM crews for followup activities, and identifying service standard priorities to assist in the scheduling of work activities. The TPMC demonstrates technical approach to ondemand work or preventative maintenance activities.
    DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Collaborates with the Manager, Supervisors and Work Planning Technicians in the coordination of quality service delivery for HRM's Traffic Management assets (traffic signs, pavement markings, traffic signal equipment, etc.) through assessments, inspections, inventory, and data collection.
  • Conducts routine road patrols to identify defects related to pavement markings, traffic signs, traffic signal equipment, etc., and assists to prioritize repair / maintenance activities in the interest of public safety.
  • Creates work orders with service standard priorities to assist staff in the scheduling of work activities.
  • Undertakes field inspections of work performed by external contractors to identify deficiencies and ensure final products are in keeping with municipal standards.
  • Responds to customer service inquiries related to the installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of infrastructure related to HRM's traffic operations assets.
  • Maintains accurate records of calls made, service requests investigated, and work performed, investigates claims, prepares reports and site inspection notes.
  • Assists with maintenance of a current and complete asset inventory, including updating the Asset Registry.
  • Ensures a healthy safe working environment following the guidelines set out in the HRM's Occupational Health and Safety policy manual and Provincial Safety regulations.
  • Remains current in technology, legislation and best practices related to this position.
  • Mitigates hazards as required.
  • May perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education & Experience

  • Diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or related field of study, designation as a Certified Engineering Technologist (CET) considered an asset;
  • Minimum three years of experience in the construction industry, including the maintenance, inspection and administration of assets.
  • Experience installing, inspecting, and / or maintaining traffic related infrastructure (regulatory signage, pavement markings, etc.) considered an asset
  • Experience in a municipal government environment and management of public infrastructure considered an asset
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
  • OHS certification or ability to attain,
  • Temporary Workplace Traffic Control certification (Traffic Control Person & Temporary Workplace Signer) or ability to attain, and
  • Valid Nova Scotia driver's license

  • Knowledge of work order scheduling and tracking processes
  • Knowledge of project(construction) management principles and practices

WORK STATUS: Permanent full time.

HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours week; Monday to Friday, however overtime is sometimes requested depending on operational requirements.
