Job Summary


The dispatcher is responsible for dispatching officers, answering phones, customer relations, adoptions and animal handling, and cleaning/tidying/maintenance of the front lobby area.


Qualifications, Experience, and Personal Attributes

  • Minimum High School diploma or equivalent,
  • Animal care training and experience is an asset,
  • Knowledge of a variety of animals, animal behavior and their care requirements,
  • Knowledge of municipality bylaws,
  • Must have genuine compassion for animals,
  • Ability to work with multiple online platforms,
  • Ability to manage high call quantities,
  • Good command of the English language verbal and written,
  • Outstanding communication and customer service skills,
  • Must be flexible to perform a variety of duties,
  • Must be a team player,
  • Must not have allergies limiting or affecting exposure to animals,
  • Ability to remain professional under pressure,
  • Proactive, selfdirected, and able to work in a fastpaced environment,
  • Able to multitask, prioritize workload, and flexible to adapt to change and shifting priorities,
  • Crisis management skills and,
  • Knowledge of WHIMIS.

Responsibilities/Duties

  • Treat the public with compassion and respect, employing superior customer service skills at all times,
  • Receiving complaints and reports from the public and dispatching officers in a timely manner,
  • Follows policies and procedures set out by the Society and reports all incidents to his/her immediate supervisor immediately,
  • General cleaning and disinfecting of the premises and equipment used within the shelter, i.e. front desk, phones, public washroom, and lobby,
  • Manage caseloads and assign tasks with followups,
  • Some laundry duties may be required,
  • Notifies supervisor of any health problems or concerns regarding the animals,
  • Assist the public with adoptions and inquiries,
  • General animal adoption viewings when required,
  • Works in compliance with the AODA, Occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations,
  • Immediately reports all incidents of injury, property damage, absence of or failure of a protective device and/or equipment to the supervisor immediately,
  • Reception duties, including greeting the public, answering phones, filing and general clerical duties,
  • May perform other LCHS position functions and,
  • Other duties may be required from time to time.

Working Conditions

  • Requires the ability to pick up all sizes and types of animals,
  • Exposure to distressed and/or aggressive animals,
  • Dealing with the public under a variety of circumstances,
  • Working in a noisy environment,
  • Handling various chemicals and medications,
  • May have to handle wildlife (potential for zoonotic diseases) and,
  • Working in an emotionally charged environment.

Job Type:
Part-time

Part-time hours: 24-32 per week


Salary:
From $19.80 per hour
