Summary

  • The Hatchery Floor Supervisor will provide support and assistance to the Hatchery Manager and Technical Operations Manager Hatcheries in all aspects of the hatchery floor management including hygiene, egg storage, incubation, chick health, animal welfare, audits and quality assurance.
  • The Hatchery Floor Supervisor will assist the Hatchery Manager with directing and coordinating the activities of Hatchery Workers and conduct employee training.
Schedule

This is a full-time position working on average 40 hours a week. Hours may vary and weekend and holiday work may be required depending on operational requirements.

Position AccountabilitiesMonitor and maintain operation process to ensure operational success.

  • Ensure Hatchery Workers are following proper protocols as they relate to animal welfare, biosecurity, sanitation, chick quality, operations, and safety.
  • Maintain a smoothly operating chick room by assisting in various positions as required.
  • Complete required data management and input as required.
  • Set up embrex and mix necessary vaccines while overseeing the process.
  • Organize egg room activities, documents, and supplies for breeder barn hatching egg collection.
  • Verify and stay up to date with daily egg inventory and requirements.
  • Provide training to hatchery workers to ensure high quality chicks leave the hatchery
  • Verify chick counts and prepare chick delivery forms, including for small orders
  • Help direct and deliver communication between the Hatchery Manager, Technical Operations Manager, Dispatcher, and Hatchery Workers.
  • Monitor operating equipment to ensure it is in good working condition and reach out to maintenance as required.
  • Contribute to a safe work environment.
  • Support the Hatchery Manager with team leadership including coaching, employee relations, and performance management.
  • Orientate new staff to the hatchery.
  • Complete hatchery worker scheduling and timecard management for workers.
  • Provide an environment free of animal cruelty, abuse and/or neglect for our poultry.
  • Protect the organization's value by keeping all protected and proprietary information confidential.
  • Ensure biosecurity protocol is adhered to.
  • Follow all safety processes and procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Position RequirementsMinimum one (1) year supervisory experience.

  • Post secondary education in agriculture is preferred.
  • Able to communicate effectively verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to lift up to 30lbs.
  • High level of detail and well organized in your daily routine.
  • Experience dealing with operations required to meet federal standards is an asset.
  • Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft Office, excel, outlook, word, SharePoint, and Teams is an asset.
  • Strong commitment to Health and Safety.
Working Conditions

The position operates indoors in a production environment, along with office work. The work environment may be warm and humid, noisy, dusty, and strong odours. Standing for long periods of time and repetitive tasks are common.
