Dixie Bloor Neighborhood Centre supports a positive, healthy and caring community by providing programs and services for Families (Children, Youth, Adults, and Seniors), Job Seekers, and Newcomers.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Provides assistance and support to Employment Resource Room users
- Provides information and orientation on internal and external programs to address clients' needs
- Delivers Internet and introductory computer training sessions
- Researches WEB and downloads job postings from various sites
- Assists clients with job postings and Internet Job Search
- Helps clients with the use of job search materials such as directories, newspapers, books, etc.
- Assists clients when necessary with office equipment (computers, fax, phones, and photocopier)
- Monitors and maintain a signin list for all Resource Room clients
- Keeps an organized Resource Room
- Records client visits for monthly reporting
SUPERVISION AND MENTORING PLANS:
- Participant will be supervised by the Employment Programs Manager and mentored by the Lead Employment Counsellor.
- Participant will be introduced to the staff and provided with an overview of the agency and the Employment Centre.
- Training will include Health and Safety, Conflict of Interest/Confidentiality, HR Policies, including inclusion and diversity.
- Participant will be oriented to the program features and equipment, intake and referral process, available resources and how to access resources, and reporting requirements.
- Participant will work with a staff member who will act as a mentor and coach.
- Participant feedback will be constantly generated to ensure that sufficient support is provided.
HEALTH AND SAFETY PRACTICES:
- Participant will be provided with the mandatory WHMIS training and will be oriented to HR Policies and Procedures.
- Full supervision will be provided, and a designated goto senior staff will be assigned to provide additional support.
PARTICIPANT ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible, youth must:
- be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person to whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act for the duration of the employment**- have a valid Social Insurance Number at the start of employment and be legally entitled to work in Canada in accordance with relevant provincial or territorial legislation and regulations.
**International students are not eligible participants.
